I can’t take the wait any more! I’ve had the date for the 12 week scan and it just seems too far away! I’m 10 weeks tomorrow and have another 3 weeks to wait until the NHS 12 week scan so I’m going to pay for a private one next week.
Does anyone know if they still do scans internally at 10-11 weeks or is it big enough by then to do it on your tummy? I’d love to surprise my mother and take her with us to see the scan, but only if it’s not going to be an internal.
Thank you!

I had a scan at 10 weeks and it wasn’t internal but I think sometimes they do it internal so my answer isn’t much help xx
I had my private scan at 6 weeks and it was external. I had another one with nhs emergency unit at 7 weeks it was internal. It really depends on the person doing the scan. Internal is mainly for them to see very well most times. To be honest my 6 weeks and 7 weeks pictures had no difference; we saw the baby and both had a heartbeat.
I had a scan at 10 weeks at early pregnancy unit ( I had some bleeding) & the sonographer was able to do my scan on my abdomen & once they established all was okay we were able to see baby very clearly!!! I cried! At 10 weeks babies are very strong & have progressed from embryo to fetus.
Good luck with your scan it’s wonderful seeing the baby ❤️xoxo
Aww I’m sorry to hear that! But thank you for your reply. Xx
I had a scan at 10 weeks and they did a tummy one first and you could see baby but it wasn't too clear, so did an internal so they could do measurements etc xxxx
I had one at 8 weeks and they didn’t need to do internal! I was almost 9 weeks so baby was big enough to see just on my tum. So I’m sure it’ll just be on your tum! X
