I’ve just been made aware that someone I taught last Tuesday has tested positive. I had my first ivf progress scan today where I’ve been told follicles are progressing well and 2nd scan Wednesday. I have no Covid symptoms and going to ring clinic tomorrow. I’m so worried they will tell me to stop this cycle. Has anyone had experience of this?

You ideally should start isolating for the full 14 days, you also need to make the clinic aware you have been in contact with someone whose tested positive, it’s frustrating but covid symptoms can take 14 days to come out xx
Thanks for the reply, that’s what I thought but reading guidance I’m just getting more confused 🙈 think I’ll just wait until I can tell the clinic tomorrow and try not to stress too much. If it is cancelled hopefully won’t be for long. Feels like it’s been forever to get to this point!
My friend taught a child last Wednesday who went on to test positive. Public Health England said she did not have to isolate - she is not the child’s proper class teacher she was covering for the day in a PPA role and did not get close to the child.
Your school should have been in contact with PHE and they should have advised. Were you contacted by track & trace to isolate or just heard through colleagues? It would be a huge shame to have your cycle cancelled if PHE advise not to Xx
Thanks for the reply. I was told by colleagues not contacted by track and trace. I would understand but be such a shame and this may happen again in the future so seems never ending! I taught him for two hours and away from him. I’ll ring clinic for advise hopefully won’t be fully stopped!
My suggestion is to go and have a test done for Covid before informing the clinic as they might cancel your cycle unnecessarily. My husband had Covid while I was on down reg and just few days before starting stimulation. I was lucky enough to not get the virus even we kissed each other the day he tested positive.
I called my clinic in Spain and told them about my husband and we postponed our stim cycle by a week. Our doctor told me that they can do egg retrieval if you have the virus but will never do the transfer but I sure is not the case in UK.
I’ve been dealing with COVID a lot with work, look up the definition of close contact on the nhs website before you tell your clinic - obviously you have a massive obligation to make sure you don’t visit if you are at risk - however you might find that you were never within 2m of this person so aren’t actually classed as a contact! Or even if you were less than 2m, but more than 1m, if you weren’t face to face (eg just passed the person side by side, or were back to back) that also means you’re not a close contact. It’s hard to work out sometimes but just work out exactly what level of contact you had before you worry and cancel your cycle xx
Thank you for this! Very helpful, I have checked and I was more than 2 meters away at all times and we both had masks on. I’m going to be honest with the clinic but this makes me feel better seeing the definitions!
I think they will cancel you if you tell them 😳 which is hard to decide for the best. If you were more than 2m apart AND had masks on then you definitely are safe, you do not need to treat yourself At all as a close contact so I wouldn’t raise it with them to be honest
Hi, well according to UK Gov advice you only need to self-isolate at present if a member of your household tests positive OR if you get contacted by test and trace and told to do so.
Therefore, personally, I wouldn't necessarily be forthcoming in declaring that information. I honestly would be scared of an unnecessary cancellation. I wouldn't assume they will be reasonable with you. Do they have a written policy about it? Best of luck xx
If work are not asking you to isolate than you are not classed as close or direct contact. During my cycle the clinic tested me for covid at key points to make sure I was clear and had to isolate from before egg collection to after transfer too.
When someone in my work tested positive we were told we did not need to isolate as we had not been in close contact with her with in 48hrs of her displaying symptoms (think we wouldve been contacted by track n trace if we had). So you also need to consider if person just got results today were they only symptomatic sat/sun in which case Tues should be fine. Also not sure if same questions but my clinic asks have you been in close contact within last 7 days so for your next appointment your answer would be no. Obviously clinic will give you correct guidance but try not to worry x
Thanks everyone! You all really helped! I was just so worried last night as couldn't speak to anyone at the clinic, but everything is fine and I can still go ahead with my appointments!
