Covid contact after egg transfer

PrincessGurn1984 profile image

Having a mild panic! Had my transfer on Monday, just found out that someone I was sat next to for 30 minutes in a meeting yesterday (Wednesday) has tested positive for covid today (Thursday). He didn’t have any symptoms yesterday when I was in contact with him, but felt unwell this morning. I am having a major anxiety attack now that if I have catch it that my embryo won’t implant and it will affect this crucial 2 week wait. Anyone been in this situation? Or know if it does affect implementation? Should my embryo have started to implant by now since Monday or not yet? X

Hi lovely. So sorry this has happened. How stressful for you! I don't think you would have symptoms immediately even if you did get covid so try not to worry. It could just be stress making you feel under the weather. xxx

I feel fine in myself at the moment. I don’t think I would get symptoms yet, I’ll do LF tests every day I think for the next week. It’s just typical timing isn’t it! X

Yes, it's absolutely typical! The things we IVFers have to go through are just silly sometimes. Anyway, thinking of you! Hope you don't get sick and even if you do, it could be absolutely fine. I've heard of lots of people with flu or whatever in their two-week wait who still got pregnant just fine. xxxx

Thank you! Am keeping everything crossed I don’t get covid, I’m going to test like crazy on the LFs for the next week x

Hi Princess1984What a stressful time for you Try to stay calm -rest well eat & drink as normal - the way your feeling maybe from your medication + stress If you have had the Covid 19 vaccine that will give you some protection Have you had a LFT recently -if not you should get some from a vaccination centre If still unsure call your clinic for more advice/reassurance

Yes I’m double fascinated luckily! I’m going to do a lateral flow once I’m home as I’ve left the office now as was worried. Just so typical timing isn’t it x

Oh love, you're having a mare aren't you. Try not to worry too much. Illness isn't supposed to affect your embryo implanting. It'll be safely tucked away in your uterus. For reference this is what is supposed to happen after transfer:

After a blastocyst embryo transfer is completed, it takes about nine days before a pregnancy can be detected. During the days after a transfer, the following happens to the embryo:

Day 1: The blastocyst begins to hatch out of its shell.

Day 2: The blastocyst continues to hatch out of its shell and begins to attach itself to the uterus.

Day 3: The blastocyst attaches deeper into the uterine lining, beginning implantation.

Day 4: Implantation continues.

Day 5: Implantation is complete. Cells that eventually become the placenta and foetus have begun to develop.

Day 6: Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), the hormone that signals a developing pregnancy, starts to enter the blood stream.

Days 7 and 8: Fetal development continues and hCG continues to be secreted.

Day 9: Levels of hCG are now high enough in maternal blood to detect a pregnancy using a blood test.

xx

Absolutely typical timing isn’t it! Thanks for the timeline info that’s super helpful to have. I wish I hadn’t had gone back into the office and had just worked from home, but I can’t live under a rock can I, I’ve got a 6 year old at school and he could quite as easily just bring it home with him too! Literally only so much you can do to avoid it x

It's so hard to know what to do for the best. These are such weird times. You're absolutely right that your kid could bring it home - you just never know. I would try and rest up regardless of what it is that's making you unwell - maybe work from home now and limit contact until you test. xx

Thank you! Just to confirm to everyone I’m not unwell myself, I’ve just come into contact with someone who has covid yesterday so I’m testing and just hoping I don’t catch it x

Thanks for the timeline. I’ve been looking for what happens with a d3 transfer (no blastocyst). Assume it’s just all delayed by a couple of days?

Oh I’m sure you don’t need this unnecessary stress! If it makes you feel any better, I sat beside someone with covid last Monday for half an hour+ who only started having symptoms Tuesday and I’ve had negative tests. Fingers crossed for you☺️Xx
