Alcohol and TTC

Hey everyone.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on the off glass of wine when TTC? We have been trying for 3 years now and have had 3 cycles of IVF/ICSI over the past year.

My husband and I have different thoughts on the off glass of wine or beer but I just wondered what everyone else did or does?

Obviously I wouldn’t drink at all in the TTW or when going through an IVF cycle xx

I think that’s fine - I did that while TTC over the last three years (never got stupidly drunk but definitely a few!). Our ‘house anniversary’ was a couple of weeks before beginning ivf (icsi) and we had a great night sharing a bottle of red wine 😊 then I stopped completely, other half had a few drinks week before starting, both been pretty tame with drinking in the months leading up to ivf, me especially careful, but didn’t avoid it altogether.

First round successful and now 6wks+1 day.

You have to live your life so I think it’s fine to have a few vinos. My doctor said 7 drinks a week is fine - so I pretty much stuck to that. Some weeks I didn’t have any, other weeks I had a few, depending on what was happening socially. When we went on holidays I drank and ate what I wanted pretty much but once back, it was all back to being healthy. I didn’t have any alcohol during stims and I cut out alcohol completely a week before FET. But before that, I pretty much continued living a normal life. This journey is so hard, we already make so many sacrifices so I don’t see the point in cutting everything off completely.

Defo fine in my opinion being relaxed throughout this is the most important thing. After years of trying it only makes it harder And more frustrating when we sacrifice ever tiny little thing and the chances are it makes absolutely no difference to the outcome anyway! Obviously it’s a completely personal choice but there should be no judgement either way xx

I was advised by my consultant not to drink while on IVF drug protocols. I just assumed alcohol could disrupt the drugs but to be honest I have no idea. Alcohol can have negative impact on absorption of different minerals & vitamins so it kinda makes sense to stop if you want to give your body the best chance. So generally we both stopped drinking the week before I started drugs. Hubby did too if he had a sample to provide and if one was already taken & frozen he did anyway just to show his support. At the end of the day like many other advice around IVF, it probably best to do whatever is right for you.
