TTC and just want to know

Hi everyone! I’m so glad I have stumbled across this group... have been dying to talk to people about this. I have been ttc for nearly 3 years now and nothing. I am now worried and stressing that it may never happen. Is there any way to find out if either me or my hubby are at fault? I would just like to find out now if that’s the case but don’t know how or where I go for these types of tests. If someone could let me know where I can find this sort of thing out that would be great. I just feel like a failure and worried I may be the problem and will never get to have children.

Thank you 💖

Hi Labmummy, the first place to go to is your GP. He can refer you to a scan and get your tubes checked, a spermiogram for your partner and basic blood tests for both of you. The next step is a fertility centre usually. Don't worry, even when there are problems with fertility of one of you or both, there are a lot of ways of having babies still!

Thank you Tigr so much for this information I will certainly go to the GP but just didn’t want to get fobbed off! I just don’t want to leave it too late and let age add to any problems as well!

Aww no worries. You definitely have a good reason to go if you did not fall pregnant within a year ttc below the age of 35 or half a year above that age or when you have irregular or very short or long cycles. If they are not understanding, find another one. I had a quite unpleasant experience going there after ttc for a while without success and having a nurse telling me straight away that there is no way that I could have babies with cycles this long (which is not true but might need intervention) and broke down in tears. People at the normal surgeries are not necessarily trained for fertility stuff so well, so you might need to push a bit for referals and don't take their judgements to heart so much. I hope you find a good GP and wish you all the best!

I had the same when I went to my gp to talk about how irregular mine were and my concern... she told me to come back if it caused a problem with fertility. I just felt that I knew my body and could tell this would happen! Thank you so much.. it’s so nice to find people that you can talk to about this... makes it a lot easier of a process 💖

Agreed with above. Insist on the tests and a referral. The referral to the fertility clinic can take a while depending on where you are but the tests your gp can start you on will be great indicators. Good luck xx

Hello, welcome to the group. As you have tried over a year your GP should get the tests sorted ASAP. When I have been ill I have had mixed thoughts on GPS but when it has come to infertility investigations they have been fantastic. Good luck x

I want to say welcome to our group 🙌🏻

And I agree wholeheartedly with others - you need to see your GP preferably together to get a referral to a fertility specialist & to start basic tests whilst you await your appointment.

I know it’s scary but sooner you find a cause the sooner you will know what you are dealing with & can get a plan if treatment tailored for you both & get closer to having your much wanted baby. You can do this 🙂

It’s no ones fault infertility is a cruel wicked disease but one that can be beaten.

I say this because I have beaten it 🙂 it took us 6 years of TTC to find the cause of infertility I have endometriosis which can only be diagnosed via laparoscopy if you get the chance & all other tests come back normal like they did for us have a laparoscopy to diagnose or rule out endometriosis. After a long 7 year struggle & 3 surgeries to treat endometriosis & a early miscarriage I am 32 weeks pregnant with a little girl & cannot wait to meet her! This is a day I never thought would ever happen. Even the issue was “my fault “ hubby never blamed me once & kept saying we were in this together. We’ve come out of this stronger & so will you.

It’s a difficult journey but you have the strength to do this & all of us here are right behind you willing you on xoxo ❤️

Hi. This site is amazing , it is one of the best things I’ve done. It is so helpful and supportive. Please don’t think either of you will be contributing to being a failure you are both in this together and are hopefully going to overcome your struggles one way or another. Go to the GP and explain your situation, I am sure they will be helpful. Always know you went to be referred and you want to go further for investigations. All the luck ! Xx

Welcome to this site it is full of amazing people who will give you advice if they can.

I know what you are going through me and my partner was trying for 5 years even tho we have kids from previous relationship it still wasnt happening for us.... we was sent to a fertility clinic where it turns out I have pcos and I lost all hope..... but last year I found out I was preganant now we have got a healthy baby boy.

so definitely go and see you gp and get them to refer you to a fertility clinic and get it sorted but never ever lose hope xx

good luck xx

Hi, thank you all so much for all of your comments it has been so overwhelming! Update:

I haven’t been to the doctors yet, in all honestly I keep putting it off because I don’t want to find out and keep giving my self 1 more month and because we have both been stressed with other things! Are they excuses? Probably but I want to give it a chance!

What I am finding difficult is trying to forget that we are TTC and then finding out so many people around me are announcing their pregnancies and I am meant to be ‘happy for them’ which is hard!

Anyway just wanted to check in with you all!! Hope everyone is ok!

Xx
