Has anyone been referred for a laparoscopy by NHS?

Laparoscopy NHS?
Hi Lilly. Glad to see you back here and hope you are ok.
Yes i hd my lap and dye test in 2018 through nhs. Back then it was roughly a 8 weeks wait. They found minor endometrial tissue they burned away with laser and put me on clomid.
Are you having it done for a specific reason? Xx
How did you manage to get them to do the laparoscopy? Had they seem something on your ultra sound?
I had cysts coming and going. One of the cysts was a chocolate cyst. But i think it was done as part of my infertility investigation to check if my tubes were open. X
Do you know what lead them to suggest The laparoscopy? I also had the tube check but they did not offer a laparoscopy
Nice to hear from you! I fear I need it. Trying to find out how to convince them to book me on a laparoscopy. Xx
You can ask for referral if you have pain during intercourse or you have abdominal pain and perhaps very painful heavy periods. Those symptoms can suggest a reason for them to go in and check. Xx waitingtimes might be a bit long though
Hi Lilly,
The NHS hospital said my blocked tube wasn't an issue so didn't carry out any treatment. It was only when they made the referral to the ivf clinic for my 1 round on the NHS that I was told fluid from it would be harmful to the embryo. The clinic wrote to the hospital to say it needed to be clipped or removed before we could proceed so only then was I added to the hospital waiting list for the laparoscopy. I had to keep going through the pals team at the hospital to get it booked as I couldn't get hold of anyone and was annoyed they hadn't suggested a laparoscopy before as wasted 6 months.
You have to be your own advocate so do hope the above helps at all and that you get the outcome you need. Good luck x
Thank you. From reading all the replies I got, it appears that women with blocked tubes get referred to laparoscopy although the tube clipping is a different procedure. Do you know why they suggested laparoscopy to you at the same time as the tube clipping?
I believe both are done through an operation and normally use laparoscopy so can see the problem and smaller wounds so quicker recovery.
For me they said they would clip the blocked tube if possible but if too damaged then would remove and the only way to do either was through a laparoscopy. When I came around they had removed my tube as it was bent back on itself so couldn't be clipped.
The HSG test and internal scans often give an indication of how serious the blockage is... What was the outcome from yours?
Yes, I had mine done recently at the start of this month. Xx
I had a laparoscopy back in January, following a scan and dye test. My results showed I had damage to one of my tubes. To be able to move forward with my treatment and for it to be successful I had to have one of my tubes clipped.
Do you know what made them decide to do a laparoscopy?
Hi Lilly, I had one in January 2019 because few months earlier in October 2018 I had a Hycosy which is where they just pushed dye through my tubes to check them. They suspected one might be blocked but they weren’t sure if it was just because it had tensed up a lot but sent me for a laparoscopy anyway.
Turns out when they did the laparoscopy my tubes were absolutely fine but they found mild to moderate endometriosis and got rid of it, and also that my left ovary was stuck to my pelvic wall with it so they released it! So pleased they went in and had a look as I had no symptoms of anything being wrong in there!!
Hi Lilly,
Yes I had an laparoscopy in 2017 with NHS.
I used to experience a lot of pain in my ovaries and especially during intercourse. I was referred to IVF clinic but they found a cyst on my right ovary therefore they refused to do IVF for me until I got the cyst removed. They also thought this might have been the reason for such extreme pain. Also they said this will help them discover any other issues I had which prevented me from getting pregnant naturally. Therefore they referred me for a laparoscopy.
They said they will also do a dye test and check for endometriosis as there was a chance I had endometriosis due to the extreme pain.
The results were I didn’t have endometriosis thank god. During the dye test they said my fallopian tubes are not blocked and are working perfectly fine. They managed to remove the cyst and said this might help me get pregnant naturally and get rid of the pain. After this I was referred back to the IVF clinic with unexplainable infertility.
Sadly this didn’t help me get pregnant naturally but it helped me start my IVF with NHS as I was referred back to the clinic after the laparoscopy. Also it reduced the pain during intercourse and on a daily basis.
I am not sure why you need a laparoscopy but if you are trying to get referred you might need to ask them you want to check if your fallopian tubes work fine or if you experience any sort of pain near your ovaries
I hope this helps 💛
I was referred by my GP initially for having painful periods. They suspected endometriosis but the laparoscopy found I had a blocked tube. This led to my IVF referral.
Yes I had a laparoscopy and dye back in March last year via the nhs. All went well, I was a little more sore than I expected but was back to work by day 6. I was given a 2 week sick note but i didn't need that long off as I only work in an office x
