I have read that anything (bad) that happens to embryos up to 3 days after IVF/ICSI is likely to be caused by the sperm , and anything after 3 days it has more to do with the eggs. Is this right?
I have also read the opposite too!!!!!

I got told by our NHS embryologist that if the embryos slowed or poorly progress before day 3 then it was down to the egg and from day 3 it's the sperm. Theory worked for us anyway as our embryos did wonders after switching to DE.xx
I have been told the same as you. But also read the opposite so slightly confused 🤷🏻♀️🤦♀️ xx
Responses from my post suggest it's egg for the first 3 days then egg after - it's tricky to find the answers sometimes just from trawling the internet
I was also told by the embryologist that until the first 3 days, it's the quality of egg that matters and after that the sperm activates.
Thanks - to me it makes sense it would be sperm first 3 days as it just needs to fertilise but it seems perhaps not . Google doesn't always find comprehensive answers!!
It's been indicated to me that if the eggs fertilise and there are no known sperm issues, and the woman is above 40, then any none progression is likely to be down to egg quality and age.
On that theory I guess some could fail to progress to day 3 at all and others could make it to day 3 but then struggle and die off thereafter.
Would be interested to see the literature on none progression after day 3 being due to sperm, if anyone has any links... Cheers
We have both!!! I am over 40 and my partner has very few sperm that at one stage were described as barely twitching!!! So I was trying to work out where the problem is - if it's me then DE is the answer, if not there's a glimmer of hope for my own eggs. We've never had any embryos do nothing at all and have always been able to transfer , even if it's only one.
Hi CgarleyWarly. My thoughts are that is most likely to be the egg at fault up to Day 3, then sperm after that. Diane
