Good afternoon wonderful and inspirational ladies and partners. This forum has been a great support to me thank you to everyone so much.
I have my egg collection scheduled for Monday. My clinic have provided my husband with a sample pot whereby he needs to produce his sample at home before he arrives at the clinic. I believe this started all in light of Covid as they said they no longer use the “special room for men”
It will take us just over an hour to arrive at the clinic on the day. Has anyone had to provide sperm samples in this manner? I’m just really worried that it won’t be as fresh when we arrive.
Any advice or experience in providing a sample from home would be very welcome thank you so much.

Hi there, yes indeed it is better when it is fresh. My husband did this 2 times, had to ejaculate at home and take the specimen to the clinic. Before he was asked to do this, clinic checked where we live and how will he travel, so that his sample gets there within 1 hour (max). They were very specific it has to get there within 1 hour or ejaculating. Hope this helped. X
If the journey takes you 1 hour then you should be fine I think. I learnt that in Unites states you can buy a sperm sample for self insemination and it is being delivered in a special refrigerator pack and their delivery time is 3 hours. I learnt this from one lady I watched on youtube. She got pregnant by herself, buying sperm 🤔. So 1 hour should be ok, sperm still will be alive. Are you doing IVF or ICSI ? My husbands sperm was very poor so we had to do ICSI.
Yes ICSI. Another thing that occurred to me today was that the clinic told me they had to get rid of all their magazines due to Covid and the reason they do not have the room is because of no Internet connection hence why they are asking us to do it from home 🤔. I really do appreciate your reassurance.
We had to do this during covid. It wasn’t a lot of fun. We ended up having a retrieval just as you were allowed workmen back in your house and typically the day of collection ended up being the day we’d arranged for folk to come and fix some stuff so we had workies in the house while my husband was in the bathroom and my dad was arriving to take the dog for us. I was also told to put the vial down my top for the journey to keep it at body temp. Thankfully, by the time I did my last collection they had changed the rules so you only had provided the sample at home if you could be at the clinic within an hour of production. We are slightly over so my husband was allowed to come to the clinic and produce the sample while I was taken to get ready for retrieval which was much less stressful. Good luck!
Thank you so much for your reply really helpful. My clinic was saying within two hours, so in light of all the discrepancies, I emailed them earlier today and they have now agreed that he can do at at the clinic thankfully!!!
