Implantation bleeding or something else?

Hi, I’ve been trying to conceive for 16 months now with unexplained infertility. I’m just wondering if anyone has experienced spotting around day 20 of their cycle? It can last on and off until my period is due. It’s light pink / brown and then sometimes red but only when I wipe after the loo. It’s only started to happen since I’ve started trying. I’ve had all the tests under the sun and my gynaecologist has said there isn’t any underlying issues. I always wish it’s implantation bleeding as the dates match up but I’ve never had a positive pregnancy test. Could there be another reason for the spotting? Would appreciate hearing others stories. Hi Londongirl. I wondert whether it could be down to a luteal phase defect, causing your womb lining not to build up properly. Perhaps time for a referral if you already haven't had one. Good luck! Diane

Hi! I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility too and had the same spotting issue as you from day 20 in my cycle. I always thought it was lutheal phase defect but the doctor said everything was fine. I never knew why that happened or if it was implantation bleeding.

It's really hard to tell the difference!

Fast forward, I did IVF, got a BFP, and I did have some slight bleeding during my two week wait. I think now in retrospective that was implantation bleeding. I was cramping a lot and then had some pink bleeding, similar to my first day of my period. I thought I lost the baby. I freaked out badly. Both times were the same. The embryo stuck and I'm currently pregnant.

Thanks for your reply Elfine! It’s very helpful. I’m about to start IVF next month so fingers crossed I have the same result as you. Just so weird it’s only stared since I’ve been trying. Congratulation on your pregnancy! Your story has given me some hope!
