Eggs Collection

Hey I wanted to find out I had my egg retrieval yesterday done at hospital I was told by the Dr they had taken 23 eggs today the embryology had phone and told me it was only 17 eggs collected, could they be mistaken. Anyone any suggestions.

Maybe 17 eggs are mature and 23 collected. Did they inform you how many fertilised?

they go they will let me know monday or Tuesday for fertilisation.

You need to ask first of all how many eggs they collected. After that how many eggs were mature and how many fertilised. Also some of the clinics are offering daily updates on how your embryos are progressing, others are offering updates on day 1, day 3 and day 5.

You need to know all these details because they are crucial important. I understand that they will not do the transfer now but you should know what to expect.

Give them a call back and ask for details, I am sure they will be fine to explain them to you once again.

Hey Naz. It happens that they ‘emptied’ 23 follicles (in your scan they can only see follicles and nOt what is inside them) and then found out 17 were mature and could be used. Usually a day after they can tell you how many have fertilized using your partners sperm. Most clinics update on day 3 again how many are still progressing.

You can ring your clinic and ask for any development. Its normal they wont update during weekend but maybe you can have an update tomorrow?

17 is very good by the way. Well done.

Usually i read that on average 50% make it till day 3 (thats 8 in your case) and 50% to day 5. So hopefully you will have 4 or 5 beautiful embryos to transfer x x

Hi naz. Perhaps you did have 23 collected, but just 17 were suitable for fertilising/have fertilised. Your embryologist will keep in touch with you with updates, I'm sure. Good luck! Diane
