Embryo Update

So out of my 10 eggs, 10 were mature (great!) and 7 fertilised. Also good. They've booked us in for transfer Saturday and were like "see you then!". I was like "woah woah woah I want an update in case they're not doing well tomorrow and I decide to go for a day 3 transfer!" if loads drop off. They were just going to take that decision away from me. I don't understand.... because of coronavirus they no longer have 2 mins to call patients with an update on their embryos? Anyway they will call me tomorrow after my insistence, but didn't seem to understand how I would much prefer to transfer a day 3 embryo if the option was that or having nothing to transfer on day 5. I know we're all different in that decision though....

This is great news! 10 is a brilliant number and that's amazing fertilisation rates. I understand you wanting to get an update though. The waiting is the worst part! Hope they all make it to day 5 and you have the pick of a great bunch! Xx

I didn't get the choice of a 3 day transfer before coronavirus, they said to.me.id they don't make. it outside to day 5, it wowislnr make. a difference if they were inside apart from. prolonging the fact I wouldnt know. it didn't work 🤷🏻‍♀️. I hope so much all. make it to day 5!!!! all the best xxxx

Thats a fantastic outcome Emmie, amazing! But a little alarming that they werent going to follow up. I'm a few weeks behind you so a good flag for me to check in with them before I leave the EC!

Hey, thats super news re the 7! But I totally get your anxiety! I also get your 3dt comment.. I am amazed how many clinics on here insist on taking things to 5 days.. my place do daily updates and if you have dwindling numbers they do 3 dt or even 2dt..

I often wonder if it is a ££ thing.. not sure if your place do but my clinic charge more to take to blasto - so it saves money for us to not get there, and I am not sure of the benefit of trying to force eg 3 embryos to day 5 when they would be just as good inside you! I get it if there are 7 still on day 3 for example - and hopefully you will have that - but I think its fair enough you have asked for another update tomorrow. Hope they call you lovely and wish you masses of luck xx

I might be sceptical, but I often wonder if it's a "success rates" thing. They would prefer to discard all the not completely perfect ones and put in just the best out of the lot; however I would prefer to have maybe 4 good ones to choose from and freeze ones if I'm not going to use all of them! The number of ladies on here who get pregnant with not a top top grade, it makes me upset that my clinic just seems to throw away all my embryos. It's hard, though, because I'm also emotionally attached to them (and I've been through a lot of work to get them!) and time is progressing and egg numbers will only get worse so I don't want to discard any of them. I'm also not scientifically trained, though, so....... But then also when people get pregnant naturally I bet it's not only the 'A' grade ones...

Brilliant! Very good results! I once read on doctor google that if your embryos are not making on the lab until day 5 they will not make it in your womb either. I was surprised to read that as I always thought the opposite. I had 2 transfers on day 2 and now I am willing to try blastocyst 😂

I think with the fact that 7 have fertilised they automatically presume it will be a day 5 transfer as it was a good fertilisation rate the odds are in your favour. It happened with me but I insisted to have a call the next day, and then they said they were happy to continue to day 5. I will be keeping everything crossed for you xxx

Wow, another example of why we need to advocate for ourselves. Great result though! I'll probably be pushing for a day 3 transfer also (they have already agreed). Crossing my fingers it all goes great this week 🤞💕 xxx

It's mostly because I have a belief that I want to transfer all my embryos no matter what - why wait to day 5? Sort of thing. Definitely just a sentimental thing. Also my clinic has said it would agree to a double transfer on day 3 embryos only, which I might consider if I have super large numbers (unlikely)... but hey, I'll keep dreaming 😄 xxx

Hi Chel. THANK YOU! I feel like I've been made to think I was being precious. It seems madness to me that we would get to day 5 and they have discarded the majority of my embryos..... "oh they just weren't good enough" HOW DO YOU KNOW?! They may have become pregnancies! And the amount of work we go through to get those embryos for them to just throw them out..... I can't! And women get pregnant on day 3 embryos.... and this is a game of luck/chance, so surely having more to put back is positive, the womb has got to be a better place for them than the lab, and also having day 5s clearly doesn't mean pregnancy as I've had 4 of those put back already!

Totally agree!! Sometimes I think they forget that they are our embryos!! My last cycle I felt a bit bulldozed and not sure what was happening to my embryos / like I didn't have a choice. Definitely made me determined about making sure my choices are heard at least xx

Fantastic results 👏🏼 I totally agree with the updates. Our numbers are the same again 😊I had 7 fertilised but 6 normal. On day 3 update I had 4 top quality, 1 borderline top quality and 1 developing more slowly.

Going in tomorrow for day 5 transfer and hoping there’s still a really good one. Good luck for the day 3 update xx

Great news on your fertilised eggs! Glad they listened and agreed to call you tomorrow. As someone who has experienced lots of drop off I totally get your desire to have an update & a choice at day 3. But fingers crossed they will all be developing so well you won’t be able to choose by day 3 and you will have your day 5 transfer! 🤞 xx
