Bromocriptine for high prolactin

Hi,

Just wondering if anybody has experience of using Bromocriptine for high prolactin levels? I have just started taking the tablets and have experienced a few side effects (drowsiness/diziness and feeling sick). I'm hoping these will subside. I'm not sure how long it takes for levels to reduce once you start taking these. Anybody had any positive experiences and got pregnant after taking these?

Thanks,

Zoe

Hi Zoe, yes I am on these. Did you ease your way into your full dose?

I felt rubbish for the first week I’d say and now absolutely no symptoms.. I have been on them since December.

I literally had egg collection this morning so my levels reduced enough so I could start IVF xxxx

Just to add, I would have been ready to start feb/March time but Covid happened! My levels reduced pretty quickly. X

That's really good to know thank you! Have only taken 2 tablets but they are making me feel really faint. Hoping to take a couple more and see how it goes xx

Hi Amy,

Thank you so much for your quick reply. I'm feeling more hopeful after reading your response. It is good to know that your symptoms got better. I am on 2.5mg tablets that I take twice a week so have no idea what sort of dose that is. I'm pleased your levels came down so quickly. Good luck with your IVF. I hope you are ok and everything goes well for you xx

Hi Zozoeee. Most people I speak to who have raised prolactin levels are scared hey have brain tumours and all sorts! Once you are settled on a dose that suits you, you should soon start to see the difference - no discharge from nipples etc. An old fashioned very effective drug. Good luck with it! Diane

Hi Diane,

Thank you for your reply. Yes I did Google and saw about brain tumours! It is good to know that it is an effective drug and has worked for others. Thank you for the good luck wishes. Hope you are ok xx

Hi. Yes, it can sound scary when you hear the word tumour, but you're on the right medication to sort it out. Good luck and keep safe. Diane

Hi Zoe, I just wondered if your prolactin levels reduced. I have now been put on 20mg a day of Bromocriptine as lower dosages have not helped lower my prolactin levels. As for side effects I have them and I just feel slightly high for most of the day (not as fun as it sounds 😀). Would be interested to know how you have got on and whether you are now in a better place Prolactin wise?

Hi, thanks for the message. Yeah mine did reduce thanks. I'm taking 1 tablet every other day. How are you getting on? I really don't get on with the tablets still. Make me feel faint and sick. I try and take them just before I go to bed and sleep it off! Would really like to take something else but they recommended this as it was better if I did get pregnant. Hope you are finding your side effects a bit better now? xx
