1st monitoring scan - not great results 🙈

So just had my scan, had 1 huge follicle measuring at 17mm, a second at 12mm. They seemed quite surprised at the largest one, said much bigger than they would expect after 7 days. Unfortunately the other 3 follicles on my left follicle are not measurable. They took ages to find my right ovary and that was because it has not responded at all 🙈

I was really upset initially especially as this time last year I had 7 responding follicles. But have to hold on to the fact for my age now (44) this is probably my lot now - either that or just a bad cycle !?!

So... they gave me drugs to stop egg releasing from the larger follicle and I am to continue with 300iu of gonal f until Monday’s scan. They predict egg collection probably next Wednesday all being well 🤞🏼

Will try to keep positive over the weekend as hard as it is 🤞🏼🙏🏻🍀

I was told by a nurse that it just depends on the month how many follicles respond. I tended to have one or two that raced off ahead of the others also - I know how frustrating that is!

I kept reminding myself that it only takes one good fertilised egg to make a baby. So hopefully there’s some gold in there!! Will be thinking of you. xx

Thanks, I just feel it’s so disappointing figures compared to last year. Quality over quantity though so praying for that golden egg 🥚 🙏🏻

Yes, that is frustrating 😟 A lot of it at our age (I’m 44 too) seems to be down to luck on a particular cycle. I know that’s not very reassuring but I’ve seen friends have good luck as well as bad. As you say, quality over quantity really is important - rooting for you that you have some lovely eggs in those follicles. Discovered the Mindful IVF app last cycle and found that helped me to keep a cool head. xx

Trust me quality over quantity any day - I’m 10 weeks with twins from the cycle where I only got 2 follicles (compared to previous cycles where I got 14 follicles and 2 rubbish quality blastocysts)

Oh my goodness that has made me so happy. Thanks so much for cheering me up. I think I was so disappointed as I once had a similar cycle and ended up with only 1 egg which resulted in no transfer due to quality of embryo. However looking hopefully we have at least 2 this time. 🤞🏼

Just seen your post Hope am keeping everything crossed for you. As you say you are older this time but this might just mean your protocol needs adjusting to get you the best results. Try and stay positive hard I know but I am wishing you all the luck in the world 🍀🍀 xx

Awww thanks so much, tried to remain positive all weekend but it’s tough. I want to be hopeful that we get 2 at least. Can’t get my head around why only last year I had 7 responded follicles. Now only 2 🙈. Last year we managed to get 5 eggs. Am on exact same ‘ultrashort protocol ‘ as then. The year before I had these same results so just doesn’t make sense. Guess I have to accept at 44 it’s just my lot. Nurse said lots of women younger than me have worse results. I have to be grateful we have at least 1 maybe 2 eggs. Just with my history I have always had between 5-6 eggs with 2-3 viable for transfer so doing the maths with 2 eggs ... well am not that confident.

Anyway how are things with you, I do hope you are moving forward. Wishing you every success 🤞🏼

I get told the same my results are good considering my age and others younger have worse results although I do believe it is luck as well as you could have great results and not get a positive and have worse results and get a positive. As the saying goes it ain’t over until the fat lady sings! Not much going on with me we are having a cycle end of sept as we are due to go on holiday end of August when period due and also I want to get myself mentally ready and have some acupuncture sessions before doing another cycle. I will be looking out for your posts though and wishing you well xx

Hi,

My situation is pretty similar to yours, after 8 days of gonal f, on Friday i only had 1 good size follicle and maybe 2 other small ones on my left, my right ovary is in a difficult position so they think there are only a few small ones. They said to continue the gonal f, I've been on 375 from the beginning and go back in today for another scan so praying i have had a growth spurt over the wknd.

I am 34 and my AMH was 14.5 so they seem confused as to why i havent got a better result. This is my 2nd round and i didn't have a great response then either however that was the long protocol.

Fingers crossed for us both, that we have a better result today!! 🤞

Does anyone know if they cancel before EC does it count as an NHS funded round?

Hi Rose, sorry to hear you are in the same boat as me, it’s so disappointing when you just want them all to grow !

Today my results were 2 follicles ready @ 18mm and 22mm however still no response on the other 4. My clinic will do collection with 2 or more and just feel it’s a good gamble as often they find quality is there when fewer follicles 🤞🏼

I wish you so much luck for today, am unsure regarding if you were to cancel would you still get another NHS funded go !?! Defo ask the question should this happen however hoping you get some decent results today and we will both be having EC on Wednesday.

Yes i was definitely expecting a better result this time as everything looked good at the initial scan.

Definitely quality over quantity, glad you have the two that have grown to a decent size and they are happy to go ahead on Wednesday. 🤞

Hopefully i will hear similar today, my appointments not until later this afternoon.

Thank you! I will see what they say today, was was concerned that they might cancel as i read somewhere this can happen if theres less than 3 at a good size but obviously this is not the case.

Hey, so today was more positive, they had a all grown and could see 4 good size and 2 slightly smaller on left side, they could even see 4 on the right today 2 ok size and 2 smaller. But warned that they may not be able to get to the right ovary as its in a weird position.

So trigger tonight and collection Wednesday same as you ☺️. Crazy how things can change so quickly.

Not really looking forward to Wednesday as last time i felt ill after the sedation and not great for a few days after. Will u be having GA or sedation? X

Wednesday will be here before we know it. Am excited but apprehensive given my history as been in this position before & only got 1 that wasn’t fit for transfer 🙈. I have to think positive though 🤞🏼

Nope never even been offered sedation or GA. I take paracetamol, ibuprofen an hour before I go in. Then when I go in they give me temazepam.

This will be my 5th egg collection not ever felt much pain if am perfectly honest & totally fine afterwards.

Perhaps you can ask them not to sedated but very strong painkiller ...

Aw i know, i didnt have a great result last time either. Thats all we can do, try and be positive and not worry too much ☺️.

Wow 5th time! Hmm yeh maybe i should, i have just been told its either general or sedation and they aren't doing general at the min due to the covid cases at the hospital. I would much rather just take painkillers and not feel rough after.

Hi Rose, how did you get in today? Hoping went well and you didn’t feel too rough after the sedation?

I had 20mgs of Temazepam and 100mcgs of Fentanyl, no pain or after effects.

Got my 2 eggs so very happy we got them both 😘

Hi, so glad you got the 2 eggs!! Thats great you can have it with just the pain relief and dont suffer from any after effects.

So far so good for me, dont feel anywhere near as rough as last time just very sleepy and a bit groggy.

They managed to get 4 eggs, so we are happy with that!

Glad you’re feeling ok, 4 is a great number well done 👍 Am sure an early night will do us both good.

I went for an accupuncture appt this afternoon dunno how much good it will do me now as was unable to have in prep for the cycle. She told me the points she did were to help with blood flow and implantation 🤞🏼

My DF is having a beer and tbh could go one but thinking why bother lasted this long.

Yes definitely, thats how i feel. Was gutted last year after just getting 3 but now i am quite happy with the 4.

Oh really, i started acupuncture at the start of the year in preparation for this round but obviously had to stop when lockdown started and they did open back up last week but i wasn't sure if it was worth it with not being able to have sessions leading up to the cycle. It definitely cant hurt and hopefully it will help you. Did you do acupuncture on your previous rounds?

A beer sounds good ☺️ Im currently having a peppermint tea as i had lots of bloating last time so just trying to prevent that if i can.

Last year I got 5 but only 2 were deemed good enough quality to transfer. Did double transfer & BFN.

I am still unsure if accupuncture helps the actual results as only had it once before for the full cycle. That cycle was a failure as never ended up with anything to transfer 🙈. When my IVF worked first go 5 years ago I never did accupuncture.... I just felt it may help me relax over next few days at the very least & anything else it helps with is a bonus.

Funny am in bed with camomile tea. Let’s hope neither of us will be drinking alcohol for a very long time 😘

Tomorrow can’t come quick enough it feels like forever 🙈

Sorry to hear that, only 1 of mine made it last year and got BFN. Amazing you've had a successful cycle that must help knowing it can work for you.

Yeh definitely anything that helps with relaxing has got to be worthwhile. Yes i would give anything to not be drinking alcohol for a while if it meant a BFP!

Oh i know, i hope they ring up early morning, i remember last time it was quite early for me so hopefully the same! 😊

I know am luckier than some as my darling miracle son Harry is 4 but the struggle to get him a sibling well it’s been tough. I actually had another BFP 2 years ago which ended in miscarriage. Not one to give up though hoping this is the one 🤞🏼

Hi hope, there is still time for thr other 3 to catch up - I was the same right hadn’t responded at all left one follicle much larger then the others - they kept me on gonal f for a little longer to give the other Follicles to catch up and they did - I only got 4 eggs but I was chuffed with that - I’m 40 and consultant had suggested we may only get 1 or 2! Any way 3 were mature enough for fertilization and we got 2 embryos so you dont always need lots of follicles - quality over quantity 😊 keeping everything crossed that all goes well on weds for you xx

Hi that’s good they kept you on gonal f longer. Issue I had was there were 2 follicles ready & others had not grown at all 🥴. Was gutted initially but focusing on what we have and feel incredibly lucky at 44 to have got this far. Thanks for your support
