Sex whilst taking progesterone? Advice please? 💫

Hope everyone is doing well 😃

I just wanted some advice please. What are people’s views on having sexual intercourse whilst taking progesterone?

My progesterone can only be used in the vagina. Do you suggest to hold off as this will effect the amount of progesterone my body takes in?

My partner has been very supportive but I feel it’s a question I needed to ask?

Hi Faith,

The progesterone sometimes leaves behind chunky residue. I'd say have a shower before any sexual intercourse and don't douche but remove any chunks. Have intercourse and once done do the progesterone vaginal suppository.

If your doctor has approved for sex to resume then you should be fine. It's just a matter of timing.

I think it's fine...takes 20 to 30 minutes for absorption...so either insert then to be safe an hour later is fine or have sex and then insert...its not a stim drug so should be fine.......but agreed as above...check with your doctor

Progesterone suppositories are very messy. i would agree with they advise above. i would wash up before being intimate just to make sure all the leftover chunks are out and then insert my suppository after i have been intimate after my final shower. Just to be on the safe side you could ask your doctor but from my previous experience thats what i use to do and we were fine. I'm currently 21weeks pregnant.
