Red meat- organic meat and fish

Is read red meat bad for fertility? My doc suggested that I shall eat organic meat due to my thyroid disorder. But the main UK supermarkets sell very few organic meats (chicken and beef). So if you take out beef, it’s only chicken left (no duck, no pork. On fish, it appears only salmon comes organic. So I am wondering whether I should re-introduce beef in my diet and if anyone knows where to source organic fish like cod, plaice, haddock

I’m veggie so not too sure on the benefits but I’d imagine it’s pretty good for you (iron, protein etc). I picked up some organic beef for my mum recently - they sell it in Tesco x

We have bought organic meat & fish from Riverford before and it has been great. I think there may currently be some supply limitations due to COVID but they seem to be re-starting sales again xx

Pastured, grass-fed meat is very nourishing. If you are in London, you can order with Farmdrop. Otherwise there is Pipers Farm, Coombe Farm, Riverford. Xx

Hi Lilly..... Sainsbury’s is good for organic beef and chicken. You will struggle finding organic white fish types as most of it comes caught wild from the sea. I follow a Paleo diet and have done for years so I have always thought good quality organic unprocessed red meat is very important especially for iron levels 💪🏻

Hi, I read about the paleo diet. I was wondering why lentils and beans were forbidden? I thought they have a low glycemic index and are gluten free?

Because of their phytic acid content and because they belong to a group of foods called FODMAPS. There is lots on google to explain. I had problems with my digestive system and I found that going paleo really helped (this was a long time before IVF). As for white fish caught from the sea, I don’t think it can be called organic as obviously the fish can swim anywhere this includes polluted waters.

So do you think it is safe to eat white fish or should I stop?

I eat white fish at least 3-4 times a week. Good quality white fish has great nutritional value. I was just picking up on the “is it or isn’t it organic” debate 🤔 I became really interested in diet and nutrition years ago when I struggled with digestive problems and low iron levels. For most people eating a healthy balanced diet, cutting out junk food and going organic where possible is enough 👍🏻 Xx

All wild fish is technically organic, but you really ought to check the metal / contamination potential of each fish though. Some are much better choices than others!! Also wild game like Venison is a good and also technically organic (grass fed) choice. It won't be listed as organic though, but much healthier. Best of luck xx

I wanted to get venaison but i read ti be careful about lead from balls (as they are killed with guns I understand). Do you know if they all have balls? I bought dear last Christmas and indeed there was some tiny lead piece in the meat

Red meat & White meat ,fish is essential for our body’s for nerve & blood maintenance.Iron & vitamin B12 deficiency will occur unbeknown to most Drs,vegans & vegetarians.I am a Experienced midwife & Fertility awareness Educator several yrs ago I had a client trying to achieve a pregnancy For 4 yrs. .Turns out she was vit b12 deficient she supplemented & was pregnant in 4 mths.a vitamin b12 deficiency can cause infertility in male & female, recurrent miscarriage.foetal abnormalities,PCOS,& endometriosis.

I’m sure these things can occur in vegetarians/vegans but they don’t necessarily. I have had all my levels checked and they were all fine. Each to their own but it’s wrong to say eating meat and fish is essential. I haven’t eaten either in 29 years and am 👌😊

My class mate from fifty yrs ago stated she has been a vegetarian for many years .Now she is miserable with stomach pain ,eye damage, anxiety depression ,she can no longer drive or leave the house. She can’tolerate any food for a burning gut,Iron & Vit B12 ,Vit D deficient & has severe tinnitus .Her 2 sisters living in Qld nearly died from undiagnosed vitamin B12 deficiency & they are not vegetarians .The serum blood test is grossly inaccurate anyone below 550 requires treatment now .We both were told we were not deficient & were in so called norm range. We both have hearing loss & permanent nerve damage in our spines. If you doubt my knowledge the view the documentary & feature film on b12awareness.org

Yeah sure, but it’s ridiculous to suggest everyone who’s vegetarian will be deficient x

There is only vitamin b12 found found in meat ,fish & animal products.Nothing in veggies & fruit.

Yes as you say it’s found in animal products - eggs and dairy which vegetarians do eat. Vegans of course don’t but so many foods (cereals, nut milks, nutritional yeast etc) are fortified with B12 so they can get sufficient amounts that way.

Unfortunately that is not true as we both have Genetic Mutation MTHFR, along with auto immune pernicious Anaemia ,or gastric & bowel surgery ,drug induced Vit B12 deficiency require frequent Vitamin B12 injections to be absorbed into the cells .Oral supplements are ineffective. If you care to Met Dr Dave Carr in the above website documentary who is near death made a remarkable recovery thanks to aggressive vitamin B12 shots. Sadly both of us are just some of the millions left with permanent hearing loss ,peripheral neuropathy ( numb feet ) & permanent nerve damage in our spines cervical stenosis & SACD thanks to delayed diagnosis & treatment.
