‘Slightly Raised’ Prolactin in bloods...

I’ve read and re read the letter from my consultant as at first I thought ‘oh no! That’s it, game over, no FET for me ☹️!’ But I’m trying very hard to take comfort in the wording she used... ‘slightly raised’... even so she wants me to be re checked in a few weeks time...

My son who’s 18 months will have the occasional breast feed. He’s been going through teething and well, he just enjoys it - as do I ❤️

But now with this episode of teething more settled and me trying to distract him with cuddles and pushchair walks in the day instead of boob - to - naps... I’m sure my prolactin will drop.

Should I come clean to my consultant about my BF? 🤷🏻‍♀️ I really want him to come off boob when he’s ready, I hate the idea of having to wean... its our go to comfort during the night if my hubby can’t settle him... help ladies!!!

Hi, I had slightly raised prolactin. I stopped breastfeeding when the baby turned 12 months and my prolactin was still very high a few months after that.

My doctor suggested that I get everything into a normal level for an optimum outcome for my FET. My NHS doctor prescribed me some medication to reduce the prolactin level.

My first FET failed but second one was successful.

If you want to know more info, please feel free to PM me.

Good luck

I would think if you're breast feeding then that would increase your levels and when you stop they will come down. I would tell your consultant that you're still feeding. They may well want you to stop before you start on meds for an FET so you would possibly have to either wean your wee one or post phone your FET. I had slightly raised prolactin but that was related to my thyroid being a bit increased. Also your prolactin is highest on waking up so if you can get a blood test later in the day if possible as that may help too.xx

Thank you for the advise about getting a test later in the day. 👍🏻

I read back over my letter that she dictated following our telephone consultation and she acknowledged that I was breastfeeding - it was not commented on as in to stop, and it’s like 2-3 times a day max. Sometimes not at all when I’m at work.

Hi Princess. You may find that when you stop breast feeding, the prolactin level may come down again. If it doesn't and it is really high - upwards of 1000 you may need some mediation to reduce it to within normal range. All hormones need to be in balance. Good luck! Diane
