Anyone had a Laproscopy?

Hi there just need some advice. I have been trying for a family for a long time. For the last 2 years I have had long standing problems with ovarian pain. I have been for an internal scan and they have told me I have inflamation around my ovaries. My CA125 is raised and I look 6months pregnant. I have been investigated for Ovarian cancer, which seems to be clear on any Ultra sound scan. What has shown is a growth that was a suspected luteal cyst which has now disappeared. There is no cyst, however I have swollen ovaries. I am trying for a family at the same time, during all of this. I have found, I do not ovulate at all. This could be the cause to my content pain bloating and feeling of fullness, nausea every month with no such pregnancy. I am due for a laproscopy in 2 weeks. To see if this is causing my infertility. Has anyone else had a laprotomy? Is it a good idea to have surgical scoping? I am only 34yrs old. Never been pregnant. I had previous Loop excision for a cervical cancer at 21yrs old. 50% cervix has already been removed. I'm not sure if I hold any hope anymore if I will ever be able to have a family of my own.

Hi Jayne, sorry you're going through such a rough time. I had a laparoscopy last summer to remove a large ovarian cyst (endometrial) and other endometrial tissue. I had excision surgery. If you have any questions please feel welcome to PM me. Happy to help out if I can 🙂 xx

Hi Jayne1986 , sorry to hear you are going through so much! I am 36 the end of this month and have been trying for 2.5 years (been diagnosed with endometriosis)

From your story I believe if the docs want to operate and see what’s going on then I think you should go for it. Our dreams are to have a baby but you need to be healthy too.

I would hope from this they will be able to tell you why you have this pain and bloating and get a plan to help with this and in turn help to have the family you want.

At the end of last year I had a Scan as we are starting IVF. The first showed a mass and they basically said they couldnt rule out cancer. I was so scared! Many test later they were happy it wasn’t cancer but a mass of cysts. Like I said before you are also important so I believe tackle this and get yourself feeling super duper and go from there.

I had a laparoscopy many years ago which diagnosed the endometriosis. It only left 2 very small scars. Afterwards there was a lot of bloating from the gas and I had a pain in shoulder as some of the gas travelled which lasted a couple of days but that was the worst bit my tummy I don’t remember it being painful after just a tad achey when moving around.

This group is great so I am sure you will hear lots of other advice that will help. If you do have any other questions or need a venting board then please feel free to get in touch.

Wishing you all the best lovely xxx

Hi - just to say laparoscopy / laparotomy - 2 different things ( laparoscopy is quick keyhole, laparotomy is abdominal surgery ). I did have both a v long time ago for Pelvic Infamatory disease way back in 1998 at 21 yrs due to a silent infection and adhesions on the tubes / elevated CA 125. I am now 43 and having DD IVF - you are still young and it sounds like you are doing exactly the right thing with the experts to investigate things as thoroughly as possible so that you can maximise the chances of fullfilling your dreams . With hindsight I wish I had looked into things more thoroughly myself in my 30's but I didn't. Bestest wishes x

Hi Jane1986, I had a laproscopy done in March this year. I suffer from PCOS and they had to laser off some cysts from one of the ovaries to regulate my ovulation. The procedure itself isn't that bad. It's the post surgery that I found difficult. The gas they inflat in you travels upto your shoulders. I genuinely felt like I had surgery on my shoulders and not abdomen area. It took me a good week to feel a 100%. The following cycle I did ovulate. On my second cycle now and still waiting for periods to arrive. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions xxxx
