Confused!!!

Sibbo84 profile image

Evening ladies,

So I was convinced I was miscarrying after some brown spotting last week. However it stayed light and didn’t change for a few days, then I had period like cramps and the following morning, a bright red bleed. But only once when I wiped, no trace of it after.

That was 2 days ago and since then, any and all discharge/bleeding disappeared...until this afternoon. I had another red bleed, just the once again and now we’re back to brown.

I’m so confused! I should be 5 weeks 4 days and I did a clear blue this morning which still dated me as 1-2 weeks (based on my last period I think the clear blue should date me at least 2-3 if not 3+)

In my heart I think I know I’m miscarrying but I’m just so confused with how it’s happening. I had a miscarriage 2 months ago and that one was very text book. I was able to have a scan then as I was 7 weeks when it started. It’s too early for this one.

Has anyone had any experience of a miscarriage playing out this way? If so how long did it last? My worst nightmare would be to have to wait until my 12 week scan to find out. I just want it to be over, this limbo is torture!

Any experiences welcome 🙌🏼

UPDATE - after 2 weeks of spotting it finally turned in to bleeding with cramps and my tests faded so I miscarried 😢

I not sure what’s available at the min but usually I would contact your epu at hospital if you have bleeding but might not see u until your over 6w. Hopefully it’s nothing x

Thanks for replying 😊

I called when I had the first bleed and they said just wait and see what happens and call if it gets worse or I have pain. I think they are being extra careful as it’s a Covid hospital, plus they can’t scan me this early. I’m just going to monitor it and call them if it gets worse but it’s stopped again. So strange. Just want it to be done with if that makes sense, this back and forth knicker checking is driving me mad x

Yes it’s an awful feeling I’ve been through it numerous times just have to try to stay positive, I’d try to get a scan tho fingers crossed all is well x

Thanks hon 😊 whatever happens, happens so I’m just going to see how it pans out and if nothing has changed when I reach 6.5 weeks I’ll see if they can scan me x

Oh that is stressful. Could you contact your GP and ask for hcg and see whether it’s doubling as it should? Hopefully it’s not a miscarriage.

Sibbo84 profile image
Sibbo84 in reply toSandyels

I’ve asked and they said it’s not something they offer as it won’t change anything. Well we all know that 🤦🏽‍♀️ There’s nothing that can change anything and I’m ok with that, it would just be good to know a little bit more so I can be prepared for how long this is going to drag out x

Hi Sibbo I did have very similar experience including the clear blue test and posted on here at the start of the year. Unfortunately mine did turn into a miscarriage at just over 6 weeks but the amount of people who responded to my post who went on to have a healthy pregnancy after the bleed showed that it could have went either way! The clear blue digital date can also be unreliable from what I found in my research when I was in your position so not sure on that front either. I have my fingers and toes crossed that everything is okay for you 🤗 💕

Sibbo84 profile image
Sibbo84 in reply toTwiglet2

Awww thank you ♥️ So sorry you miscarried 😞 they are awful. To be honest I feel like that is what’s happening and as it was almost a week since my first spotting (whilst gutted) I’ve almost accepted it. I just can’t handle it lasting weeks. But I would be pleasantly surprised if I was wrong xx

Twiglet2 profile image
Twiglet2 in reply toSibbo84

I know exactly what you mean 🤗 really hope it’s not though xx

I have to say I am sorry but I am the same - one of my MC I had similar and my clearblues eventually got up to 2-3 weeks but never got to 3 weeks plus and then started to drop to 1-2 weeks. Overall it took a couple of weeks for me to bleed properly when I should have been 6 weeks and a bit and it was really just like a heavy period

I went to EPU and they scanned me after a week or so because it was my fourth loss and it was diagnosed as ‘pregnancy of an unknown location’ but eventually my HCG was found to be 47 and they think my body had reabsorbed the pregnancy

There are lots of good news stories out there but I do think our instinct is normally right. Huge hugs xx

Sibbo84 in reply to

I’m so sorry to hear that 😞 in my heart I know that’s what’s happening but at least now I know it’s somewhat ‘normal’ for it to take a few weeks to start bleeding, I can prepare. Xx

Are you taking pessaries? I had brown spotting with a couple of red bleeds but I didn't do another pregnancy test as I thought whatever will be will be. It turned out at my viability scan that baby was fine but the pessaries had irritated the lining of the womb causing the bleeds. They told me to switch to taking the pessaries rectally and all the bleeding stopped. I carried on with a healthy pregnancy. I hope yours is the same xx

Sibbo84 profile image
Sibbo84 in reply toCC2018

Awwww I’m so happy it worked out for you! I’m not taking anything, this is (somehow) a natural pregnancy so not taking anything other than extra folic. I agree, what will be will be so I won’t be doing anymore tests, I’m just going see how it plays out. A couple have said they have had the same experience as me so at least I know it’s normal for miscarriages to play our different. It’s because the one end of feb was very standard and clearly a miscarriage xx

Hi Sibbo I’m experiencing similar it’s awful and my heart goes out to you. How many embryos did you have transferred? I have been told that they could see one of my embryos attached but didn’t survive so that could be the reason for the spotting. I go for a scan today to see if the other is still growing but had another bleed Monday so not holding much hope. At your stage the hcg tests will prob tell you most. If you can’t get your clinic to do them or GP you can order a finger prick test on line. However if you had more than one embryo transferred be warned even the hcg tests can give misleading results (like mine) as one embryo was doubling and the other was dropping. My clinic keep reiterating if the bleeding isn’t constant like a period then they are not too worried. I’ve had a rainbow colour of bleeding so far this pregnancy. Fingers crossed for us both we have a positive outcome xxxx

Sibbo84 profile image
Sibbo84 in reply toChowlady14

Awwww I have everything crossed for you!!!! I really hope it is good news!

This is actually a natural pregnancy! After 8 years of nothing, a failed ICSI and one successful one, I’ve managed to fall pregnant twice this year but miscarried end of feb. This just feels very different to how that one played out. It’s not constant bleeding, it will be a week tomorrow since the spotting started and I’ve had a 3 bleeds but they’ve only been 1 wipe, nothing else.

The doctors won’t do my bloods to check my levels as ‘it won’t change anything’ and the EPU won’t see me until it’s constant and I’m in pain.

I’m hoping that if this is still happening this time next week, I’ll be almost 7 weeks so they can scan me.

Really good today goes well for you 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 xxx

Chowlady14 in reply toSibbo84

Hoe are you getting on? Had the spotting stopped? I’m still having spotting but the scan showed the baby had grown exactly how it should have. I still can’t relax though. I should know better as I actually spotted throughout my pregnancy with my son who is almost 5 now. It doesn’t make seeing red or brown any easier though ever. My thoughts are with you xxx

Sibbo84 profile image
Sibbo84 in reply toChowlady14

Ahhhh that’s fantastic news!!!!! Hard to relax but sounds positive! Still going, it’s been brown spotting for just over a week now and I’ve had 3 occasions of red (one wipe nothing else). I spoke to them today but they won’t see any one because of covid19 unless you are literally passing out from blood loss. She told me off the record to do a pregnancy test in 3 weeks to see if the pregnancy has ‘failed’.

I’ve been feeling really sick but seems to have gone today, my boobs still hurt though.

What’s your spotting looking like now if you don’t mind me asking? She said it can look like pretty much anything when miscarrying so the fact that it’s been so minimal still means I could be.

I just dont want to get all the way to my 12 week scan to find out I miscarried xxx

Chowlady14 profile image
Chowlady14 in reply toSibbo84

My spotting is brown now, it’s minimal but I’ve experienced a missed miscarriage previously where I had nothing so litetally each pregnancy is different. It’s so stressful isn’t it. Have you passed the 6 Wk mark yet? I know that the private scan places do them from 6 weeks maybe you could book in? Or do the hcg tests through the post it’s about £60 at least you would have peace of mind. My thoughts are with you. It doesn’t get easier so just be kind to yourself and remember your doing your best xxxx

Sibbo84 profile image
Sibbo84 in reply toChowlady14

I bet your missed miscarriage was horrific! It’s the cruelest of them all I think! Mines been so mild but obviously when you see blood you panic.

How far along are you now?

I’m 6 weeks as of today so I thought about getting a scan but everywhere I’ve looked need you to be 7 weeks so may have to wait another week. To be honest if my spotting is going to stay the same and the hospital won’t see me then what’s another week. I had one booked last time but miscarried a couple of days before. I will go mad if I have to wait 12 weeks not knowing.

I also did a clear blue because I had it in the house and it dated me at 1-2 weeks still but the midwife said to try not pay attention to that.

Thank you for your kind words xxx

Chowlady14 profile image
Chowlady14 in reply toSibbo84

Oh I can’t tell you how negatively I feel towards those tests! Honestly take what they say with a bucket load of salt (see my previous posts) the more research I did the more I think they are more sensitive in the afternoon too. I’m still bleeding now, have been consistently since 5 weeks so that almost 4 weeks of spotting 5/6 out of 7 days a week. I spoke to the clinic again today as I’m so down with it and they said everything looked fine at the scan so not worried unless it turns bright red and soaking a pad or more an hour. I have everything crossed for you that your the same and it’s not the pregnancy causing the spotting perhaps cervix. Who knows our bodies are weird and wonderful things xxx

Sibbo84 profile image
Sibbo84 in reply toChowlady14

What is your spotting like if you don’t mind me asking? Mine has been just like yours, pretty much constant from 4+6 and I’m now 6+2. It went away last night and I’ve just had another bright red bleed now, again, only when I wipe, nothing more. It’s so frustrating! Thats 4 bright red bleeds! It’s so hard to actually stay positive when this is happening despite feeling sick as a dog.

They still won’t see me, just keep saying ‘our advise is still the same, unless your in pain or bleeding to the point you pass out we can’t do anything’ so basically I have to wait until my 12 week scan to find out, providing I don’t start bleeding heavily before then and have a negative test. I just want to know either way!

When is your next scan? I know this situation is hard for hospitals but surely precautions can be taken xxx

Chowlady14 profile image
Chowlady14 in reply toSibbo84

My spotting is pretty much every day just brown but still a mood killer. Not everything to need to wear a liner but still noticeable and not what you want to see. My consultant said if it’s not heavy red clots and filling a pad or more an hour he’s not concerned. He then went on to say even if it is that doesn’t always mean the worse. I’ve not actually had any care from NHS at all. My husband is super paranoid so we’ve paid for the clinic to do everything. My next scan is my harmony scan 2 weeks tomorrow. My NHS scan is about 5 days after but o don’t think I will go given we’ve paid for the harmony scan. I’m 9 weeks and a midwife from NHS hasn’t even been in contact yet. Disappointing given my history and medical record. I had booked a scan else where next week which husband doesn’t want me to go to but I think I might go and not tell him just for reassurance although scared if there was a problem how I would cope and he would be upset with me for going without him knowing. Had all my bloods done today that NHS would normally do at booking in appointment. Feels like I’m having to wing it with no help from them at all. Given the experience I think we’re going to end up leaning towards a private birth now too xxx

Kelz2020 profile image
Kelz2020 in reply toChowlady14

Sorry to hijack your post but I couldnt read and not comment. I’ve had to pick my mouth off the floor. That’s terrible on NHS’ part. Of course there is a pandemic going on but surely this is protocol stuff?! I’ve had all the relevant appointments so far and got a midwife. Just waiting for my 12 week scam to arrive. It’s in two weeks so not sure when it will.

Must be costing you a fortune. Sorry you’ve not been treated well xx

Chowlady14 profile image
Chowlady14 in reply toKelz2020

I know it’s so frustrating because I really could have done with some support given I’ve lost one twin in this pregnancy already. I’ve chased my GP but she said that she doesn’t know what else she can do other than send the referral. It’s costing an absolute fortune. It was a thousand pounds today for the blood tests NHS should routinely do but worry is it I leave it they won’t get done in time & we already know I have issues with thyroid & last pregnancy gestational diabetes so just had to suck it up xxx

Sibbo84 profile image
Sibbo84 in reply toChowlady14

My spotting is mainly brown but I’ve now had 4 occasions of bright red, no clots and nowhere enough to fill a pad but still red. I’m not holding out much hope anymore. They don’t even want to talk to me when I call as there’s nothing they can do to scan me. Plus I’ve looked and the only places that can scan me during covid19 charge upwards of £200!!! I had one booked before my miscarriage and that one was £30!

I have problems with my thyroid and have been on mediation for about 7 years now but they don’t really care. To be honest I think I’m just going to have to wait until my 12 week scan to find out that I’ve more than likely miscarried again. They don’t seem to be able to do anything until then xxx

Chowlady14 profile image
Chowlady14 in reply toSibbo84

I saw on here a lady picked a heartbeat up with a Doppler once at 9 weeks I’m sure. Maybe you could research them for reassurance. Everything is taking so long to come by the time it arrives hopefully you won’t be too far off using it. Other than that if you are really anxious, I know I was I would do the hcg tests in the post as they ate only £60 and will show if your hcg is doubling. It’s so unfair being in limbo isn’t it. If you’ve got thyroid issues though they have to test it early in pregnancy to make sure that it’s stable because baby uses your thyroid until about 9 or 10 weeks. I think that’s why I had 6 early miscarriages before they medicated me years ago xxx

Sibbo84 profile image
Sibbo84 in reply toChowlady14

I had it tested immediately when I found out and they increased it so it’s stable now. The midwife just called to do my booking in and when I explained she has rearranged for 2 weeks. She’s said to take a test in 1 week and let her know what it says. I’m just going to have to do that I think. I’m beginning to obsess. Everything the spotting stops I think it’ll be ok then bleeding starts, it’s a circle, literally been happening the same for almost 2 weeks. Test this morning was almost negative but at around 1pm was a decent positive again. I’m so confused.

I’m really going to have to just take a step back and see what happens as it’s starting to mess with my head xxx

Chowlady14 profile image
Chowlady14 in reply toSibbo84

I don’t know if this is helpful or not but I tested before my official test day and got a strong positive. My spotting started the day after my official test day and still happens every day and I’m 9 weeks tomorrow. Scan last week showed everything perfect at 8 weeks. No way you can relax it’s impossible I personally know this but in the mean time try to be kind to yourself xxxx

Thank you. I’m so happy for you and will continue to keep everything crossed 🤞🏼 xxx

I had the similar experience in all 3 pregnancies.. I had 2 miscarriage that were 2months apart which followed with an etopic pregnancy and im currently pregnant now and im 13weeks with ivf. The 2 previous miscarriages. i had brown spotting that started off and ended up with red blood. The first was at 7weeks the 2nd was at 5weeks. I use to check with the clear blue digital detector just to monitor if my hcg was going up and it was showing i was moving on to the next week but unfortunately it startes to drop on the clear blue digital detector and i guess I knew then that it was a miscarriage. When I went it for a scan they told me there was no heartbeat so I took meds instead of allowing it to happen naturally. My current pregnancy with ivf i had a bleed which then turned to brown spotting so i rushed to the doctor to get a scan and baby still had a heartbeat and everything was fine. I had another scare at 10weeks which was red blood that turn to brown spotting and once again I rushed to the hospital only to see baby kicking and punching with a strong heartbeat. At 12weeks i had brown spotting AGAIN but i went for my scan at 13weeks and everything was perfect so it is such a confusing situation to be in but they did advise me that as long as there's no cramping and clots of blood i should not be to concerned because brown bleeding is old blood.

Sibbo84 profile image
Sibbo84 in reply to

Sounds like you’ve had such a stressful pregnancy and your not even half way! I hope things run smooth from now on.

I’m still having the odd wipe of red blood but the most is brown, no clots though. I just want to know either way how. My miscarriage in feb started brown, went red and that was it. Just feel in limbo with this one.

Hi ariy! What was fresh blood originally from though? I had a huge bleed at 8 weeks and baby was fine then brown spotting then nothing. Did scan again at 10 weeks baby was fine and now 11 weeks and have pink to red spotting when I wipe. I’m going crazy

in reply toCorchi

They did not give me an answer. When i went for a scan they checked the baby heartbeat as well as the growth and if there was an opening buy the sack but they said everything was fine. I had 3 bleeds. Not only brown bleeding some red blood that was running down my legs onto my beddings but baby seems to be fine. The brown spotting stopped around 12weeks. I got a doppler so i monitor the heartbeat quite often. im currently 14weeks. i have not had any spotting for the past 2weeks.

Thank you for your reply. I have had no reasoning either. Can you send me a pm where you bought your Doppler as there are many and some are not reputable. Please x

It really is difficult to take in and i know it can be so stressful at times because we don't know what to think. It is like one minute you up thinking everything will workout and it is going to be fine and the next you expecting the worse. i would say just hang in there until you know for sure that there's no hope to hang on to. Staying positive threw difficult pregnancies is all we can do because we can't give up on our little beans. we have to just hang in there.

I’m 4 weeks 3 days today. So sorry you’re in this position. I’m waiting for an early viability scan at 5-6 weeks to check location as i’m high risk of ectopic. I was about to book private but spoke to my GP and within 5 mins she had done an urgent EPU referral for the scan. I really hope it works out for you and feel free to keep in touch. I totally understand your anxiety even though we have different circumstances. I’m convinced mine is ectopic as i have cramps but they can be normal too! The waiting is awful

Thank you 😊 That’s good that you have a scan arranged!! They are refusing to scan me until 12 weeks and have said if I bleed heavily then it’s another miscarriage. After 2 weeks of spotting I am now bleeding heavy and have period like pains, plus my tests are getting lighter so it is over. I just wish I could have a scan to confirm it rather than having to wait for my tests to go negative. Really hope everything works out for you xx

Sounds to me like everything is fine. Here is hoping! I had a horrific bleed at 7,5 weeks with clots and everything and I’m currently almost 11 weeks pregnant now and have had two scans since then and all is good. Since bleed 2 weeks ago I have had brown discharge when I wipe but baby seems fine. I hope this gives you hope. Try and not think the worst

Sibbo84 profile image
Sibbo84 in reply toCorchi

Unfortunately it does seem it’s the worst. I am now heavily bleeding and have belly/back ache. Plus my pregnancy tests are still faint and seem to be getting fainter. The midwife said if I start to bleed then it’s a miscarriage and ‘she will see me next time’ as they won’t scan me until 12 weeks . I know bleeding isn’t always the case but with the tests disappearing I think it is for me.

So happy it worked out for you, that must have been terrifying!! Best of luck!

Thank you. I know it’s over as it looks just like my miscarriage 2 months ago, that one just happened quicker. I’d still hold a little hope but the tests are reconfirming it. I’m just focusing on getting through this part now and hopefully will feel better in a few days. Really glad yours worked out though. That’s amazing!! Xxx

in reply toSibbo84

Unfortunately i monitored my 2nd miscarriage the same way. i would check my hcg levels with the clear blue digital detector and i noticed the weeks were dropping and I knew then that it was a miscarriage even though the doctors had not confirmed it. When i went in for the scan it was confirmed.Have you tried doing any testing on the embryo considering it is your 2nd miscarriage.

Sibbo84 profile image
Sibbo84 in reply to

I’ve been doing the same and whilst it’s still a faint positive, it is disappearing as the bleeding gets heavier.

This is actually a natural pregnancy, as was the miscarriage before. My little boy was from a couple of cycles of ICSI so getting pregnant naturally was a huge surprise!! There is unfortunately no point in testing, we know the reason is my husband infertility, so I kind of expected it. But at one point I did think this might happen for us. Maybe not x

Just to give you a bit of hope, I had major bleeding in my pregnancy from 6-14 weeks. Spotted at 5, then nothing till 6 weeks and then fresh red blood almost everyday until just over 14 weeks. It was terrifying and so disheartening to see. We made it though.

I hope your able to find some calm within this very stressful time and will keep my fingers crossed for a good outcome for you. Take care xxx
