I first want to thank you all for the tremendous support I got after posting about my missed miscarriage. This community is amazing and I am so glad I found you.
After 2 scans without a heartbeat I had to take the drug (cytotec) to induce the miscarriage. Bleeding was quite impressive and I passed some clots. A week later I passed the placenta. I was supposed to get a scan yesterday to check whether the uterus was empty but because of the corona situation the appointment was by phone so no scan was done. Basically 2.5 weeks after taking the drugs I am still bleeding (not a real flow but more strechy dark red / brown discharge throughout the day). Because blood is not flowing my consultant thinks it is fine and proposes to wait and see. My beta is still positive.
I am scared that I am having an incomplete miscarriage that could lead to an infection.
How long did it take for you to stop bleeding / have your beta back to 0? If you had an incomplete miscarriage, how much were you actually bleeding and did you have other symptoms?
Thank you for your help!

Hi lovely. Sorry to hear that you're still physically dealing with this (never mind emotionally). For me, I was in a lot of pain (to the point where I could barely stand, go to the loo etc.) about 6 days after taking the medical management of miscarriage drugs, and they had to physical go in with some forceps and remove a big clot. I don't know how long it would take if it I had to bleed it all out naturally. I never had my beta tested either so I don't know how long I had the pregnancy hormones still in my system. Luckily I stopped bleeding I think after a week and a half and then had a time of not bleeding before waiting for a period again. Sounds like yours is just discharge/spotting, and so if the consultant has put you in the "not bleeding" phase, that's good. I don't know what to do about your beta not coming down (I guess this might just take some time?). However, if you're worried that it's an incomplete miscarriage then definitely push for a scan (if not at your clinic, then at another clinic) just for peace of mind. xxxx
Thanks. 😊 Sometimes we can know our bodies best, and sometimes the clinics can be quick to dismiss concerns (I imagine especially in these times when they are short staffed etc.) but this is obviously super important to your health (and mental state for moving on) and I would push for a scan. However, I'm also someone who is impatient and just wants stuff "dealt with" instead of waiting and seeing what happens...
Hi Lily, sorry to hear you’re going through this. I found it really stressful as I had no idea what normal was or whether what was happening for me was OK or problematic. For me, the hospital told me if I was still bleeding after 3 weeks to call them but anything up to this was to be expected. I stopped bleeding after 9 days and then I had a negative HPT 14 days after. I thought everything came out the first day as I lost a ton of blood and the placenta in 2 pieces, but kept bleeding so suspected there was something still there. It was red blood. Then on the 9th day I had some more tissue come out - I think the sac. As soon as I lost that, I stopped bleeding the same day. I have no idea if this is typical or not. Wishing you all the best and hope you get some resolution soon. Xx
