Hi ladies. Just wondering if you can help. Ive had info overload recently and just need to ask. I am due to start IVF in a few months. Because of my age/AMH the consultant said I will have maximum doses. What does this actually mean??? Can anyone help. I am due to go back for planning but my minds going over. Thanks
IVF - doses of meds: Hi ladies. Just... - Fertility Network UK
IVF - doses of meds
It think it just means you will have higher doses of the same meds. So for example, if you are taking Gonal F some people take 150iu, you might be on 350iu or higher. Your doctors clinic will take bloods every few days and call you to tell you what dose you are on and if you need to adjust it (not uncommon), so don't worry that you will be left in limbo! If you are on a high dose it's just slightly more liquid in the injection, it doesn't really mean much. I don't think higher doses always get more side effects, it just depends on your body and how you react to the meds. Good luck!!! xx
Hi love. They probably mean the "max doses" that the clinic does as I don't know if there's actually a specific max dose and all the meds vary by person and by clinic and by round. Also, the types of meds and how they are used can change. For example, my first round I was on 187.5 IU Gonal-f daily (and I got pregnant, but mmc), but now I'm on 300 IU Gonal-f and they haven't really given me any reason for this, it is what it is. But then I was talking to someone on here who is on 5000 IU Gonal-f, but she takes it just the once. So it is hard to make a comparison on "max dose". Also, each round is a new round and they may even change the dose during the round! Definitely ask them what they mean by "max doses" as this isn't a term I've come across. xxxx
I will be on 375 Gonal f this time and my clinic just call it a high dose???! ( first two days I will do morning and night then rest of days 375 at night only).
Ask what medication and dose and then you’ll know better . The nurses will explain this to you. Low amh will prob mean the higher number like me.
Every clinic uses their own medication so it’s hard to help precisely .
I was in menopur last time, now my whole clinic has changed to use Gonal f.
Try not to worry too much , leave the worry of that with the clinic, you just worry about taking whatever they suggest at the correct time.
You will be grand 💐

I am always maximum dose of Menopur which is 450mg. It doesn’t mean much symptom wise but it is a pain as you have to mix 3 lots of powder into one solution - unless you clinic has run out of 150mg bottles like mine did recently and so I ended up having to mix six bottles of powder with 2 solutions every day! Right faff when you are in a restaurant toilet 😂
Lol yes not ideal!! Thanks x
Hi, I am on maximum dose because of my age and AMH. It just means (or in my Case at least) they’ll ask you to take a higher level of stimulation drugs to give your body the best chance of producing more eggs, helping the follicles to grow. For me it’s 350 glonal f injection a day.
It does sadly mean it costs more but we can’t help our biology and it doesn’t mean the side effects will be worse or anything, it’s just to get you to a level playing field. Nothing to be alarmed about x
Thank you x
