Help - one dominant follicle, others stopped growing?

Hi all - would really welcome any ideas of things to try to improve this situation! At first progress scan stim day 4 I had 13 follicles overall, largest 12mm. Second scan today, day 6, the larger follicle has now got to 16mm but the others seem to have stopped growing and are all under 10mm. Has anyone had this happen to them? The clinic took bloods and are going to call later to advise whether to increase my meds.

Any tips on what I can do to try and help along the ones that have stalled???

Hi LCharlton. Not what you want to hear, but sadly this can happen. Be prepared that they may have to abandon this cycle and try again. Maybe need different medication, I don't know. Thinking of you. Diane

Goodness - thanks for the warning, Diane, I hope it doesn't come to that but good to be prepared

Hi LCharlton,

I had this happen on my second cycle. Was really frustrating as my protocol was the same as my first cycle I had around 10 follicles that grew fairly evenly . I was told it just happens sometimes, which doesn’t really help!

We talked about abandoning or proceeding and ultimately I decided to go ahead and we did end up getting 4 mature eggs despite only thinking 1 or 2. It’s a hard decision to make but you always hear it only takes 1 so that was my philosophy!

Sending you lots of luck and positive vibes xx

Sorry to hear your story. It happened to me but I think that it was more age-related that all the others just stopped getting any bigger. My cycle was cancelled but hopefully yours won't. Don't think there is anything you can do to hurry up the small ones unfortunately! Best of luck x

So sorry to hear this happened to you. Did you get an update from the clinic?

My acupuncturist tells me to use a hot water bottle on my tummy and also to keep my feet warm (no standing on cold floors), to encourage growth of the follicles. This would be the advice from a Chinese medicine perspective.

I have had some follicles really take off ahead of the others in some cycles, though, and I know that is very frustrating. The doctors have tried previously to get more even growth of follicles by increasing Buserelin (to from 0.1 dose to 0.3/ 0.4) from about Day 6 onwards.

Hope you are okay. xx

Thank you!! They said after the blood test results were back, they would call if I should up my dose - but I didn't get a call and when I tried ringing the receptionist just said "if they wanted you to change it they would have called". Scan tomorrow morning, v nervous!! X

Ah, that is true in my experience - they will ring if they want to change something!

Great you are having a scan tomorrow. Sounds like they are monitoring things closely. I hope they have some advice for you then. You still have quite a bit of time to go 🤞🏼

On one of my cycles they had to let the biggest follicle go to give the other ones time to grow. Very hopeful this will still work out for you. xx

Scan today showed that the dominant follicle somehow grew 10mm in 2 days (???) and is now 26mm, so that's no use. But three others have grown a bit and are between 10 and 12mm, so we're going to press ahead for now and see if those grow more. No idea why the rest are sticking around 7-9mm when one seems to be able to grow 5mm per day!!

I guess the 26mm follicle is more likely to be a cyst,m, have they increased your dose? I just had my EC retrieval on Wednesday, I had one dominant ovary (right one) and on left one I had lots of follicles between 7-10 mm, doctor increased my dose by another 75iu. From those 10 small from left side 5 grew close to 18mm. I didn’t get many eggs from my left side and most of them were not mature. I wish you good luck 🤞❤️

Interesting, thanks Ranchu! After looking at blood tests they decided not to up the dose. Hmmm, maybe it is a cyst? We'll see! Wishing you very good luck x
