I’ll be starting the Prontogest (on top of my 3 pessaries) tomorrow evening. It’s an intramuscular injection which means the needle is HUGE- 1.5 inches. Hubby will be performing the injections 🙈🙈🙈he’s not a nurse, of course 😂
I thought I got to a point where I am comfortable with needles due to doing soooo many injections to myself over these years but when I saw the needle I panicked 🙈
Has anyone had any experience and can give some advice on best position- after care etc????
I’ve been using them for over 2 weeks now. And heave struggle with them sitting down. But a lot of ladies have me advice and using hot water bottles and massage after and it has helped. All I can say is that the results in my numbers have defo made a difference, so it’s worth it. I don’t know if the transfer has worked yet, but at least I know we gave it everything x
Ya, one every day and then Lubion injection on the stomach too. No pressaries! You’ll be fine on Monday, I found they have defo made a difference in my progesterone levels compared to previous cycles. Good luck x
OMG you haven’t seen the needle 😂😂😂😂😱😱😱😱😱😱anyway...I got until tomorrow to calm down before showtime! My poor hubby is terrified 🙈he’s trying to be man about it so funny ahahah
I'm so happy for you that you're in this situation. I know, I know, I have no idea how bad these injections are going to be. Maybe make some deal with your hubby where you get to do something terrible to him?
Hi Emmie, ahahah thank you love. Actually I feel more sorry for my hubby than myself, he’s freaked out poor thing....he’s like ‘I don’t want to hurt you’ awwww 😢 I’ll let him try then if he’s uncomfortable and doesn’t want to do it perhaps I’ll try and find a district nurse that comes to my house (with a fee of course!)
Awwww I have the opposite problem. My husband was super stabby on the fake skin. I won't let him do injections! You do whatever you need to for you. Any relatives that are nurses???? I'm actually in a positive mindset atm. Looking forward to getting started.
Warm the prontogest up in your hands before it goes in the needle, this helps loosen the oil up a bit and is less painful being injected then. I'm a nightmare having my husband inject me, I criticise him each time 😱
I can’t give much but I had my first today I’m in the tww all I can say is it definitely didn’t feel as bad as I thought. But it does ache after so alternate sides and don’t rub but put pressure on after but honestly it’s ok. Good luck xx
I echo all the advice you’ve already been given, my other top tip is take a deep breath before and breathe out strongly as the needle goes in. I also recommend walking around straight after to help it absorb. I did them every day for 8 weeks and my backside was so sore by then but it was worth it as I am now 6 months pregnant and I found it way more effective than any other type of progesterone. Good luck!!
Thank you so much! The size of the needle freaks me out 😱😱😱thinking it needs to go all in!!!! I can’t cope with that! First injection tonight 🙈🙈🙈I am already so anxious! Xx
I have been on prontogest daily since the end of November and due to stop today. They are painful I won't lie but this is the only one which has made a difference to me as I am pregnant after many failures. Hot water bottle and massaging afterwards does help and make sure to change sides. Good luck
I had these too! I don’t know what size needles you have? Ours were colours green and yellow for stimulation. We had used a needle with green end (used to draw up stim medication then transferred to yellow needle end (smallest)for tummy injections.
When they told me I had to use the GREEN one for the intramuscular Progesterone injection I was terrified. We used it a few times, then a fellow IVFer told me she was was using a shorter thinner BLUE needle end that is far less painful than the green so I asked the pharmacy for some.
The thinner BLUE ended needle - It’s sooooo much better. The full needle goes in. Warm the muscle with a hot water bottle before. Don’t tense your bum when hubby does the injection. Massage afterwards definitely. My hubby practiced on a banana first 😂 death by 1000 stabs!! Good luck, it will be worth it!! Xx
Hey dear! Yes OMG I have to use the green needles too 🙈🙈🙈🙈I’m going back to the clinic on Monday so will ask about the blue ones.....I was thinking to actually get a nurse to do the injection, my hubby is a bit freaked out (don’t blame him!) and me too 😂😂😂😂😂I feel somehow reassured if it’s done by a pro 😂😂😂😂my hubby is a bit clumsy and not the nursing type of you know what I mean ahahaha thanks for the great advice xx hope all is well with you! ❤️
The nurse did my first ever one with hubby watching which gave him more confidence when it came to his turn. He became a real pro though, when he was away my mum who is a GP did it for me and I was left with a bruise which I never got from hubby!!!! Oh and that reminds me, you need to count for a couple of seconds before he removes the needle or you’ll get leakage.
My clinic only had the green ones, but you can get the blue ones from a pharmacy! My husband really struggled the first time, but he was a pro after 3....and it was good for our relationship for him to get involved in the process, but do what you feel works for you the best. Everyone is unique!
Oh yes...after the hot water bottle, we pummelled the spot for the injection, so when hubby did the injection, I didn't actually feel the blue needle going in!! Hang in there xxx
100% make sure that you warm the vial before hand (just tuck in your bra or under your armpit for 3-5 mins) and 100% make sure your injection site isn't cold! If you do this, you should be fine xxx
I was also freaked out by the needle size and the fact hubby was going to administer it after I've done all the others myself.
I would recommend using a heat bag on the area for a few minutes before and after injection. Heat the prontogest oil under your boob or in your hand for a few minutes. Have hubby rub the area for a minute after injecting.
I had to give them to myself for a whole week recently. I used Emla numbing cream just a pea size a few hours before injecting and they were painless.
Yep. Get the tegaderm plasters to go over the cream to keep it in place. You don't need it every day as the pain is usually only for a second but the cream was handy for me to just do it myself when hubby we away...
I applied the injections to wifes bum. I didn't let her see the needle. I then watched videos on the correct placement. The injection if applied correctly will lead to a slight initial discomfort. If the liquid has been kept in the fridge then warm it in your hands and leave a few mins. Massage the area lightly after application so the solution is dispersed and to help with numbing pain.
