I had my second cycle today and only 1 egg fertilised. It’s more than last time but we still don’t know if it will develop post day 1 and also, even if it makes it to day 3, based on the statistics, it would take me 30 cycle at this rate to have 80% chance of success of conceive 1 child. 30 cycles being impossible. I am wondering if anyone had success with less than 30 embryos transferred? It feels so hopeless

Hi, im in a similar situation as you. Im 40, i have 5 follicles and endo so im doing natural modified ivf. Last cycle went well up untill egg collection where i had light sedation which didnt work at all so they only tried the biggest follicle and the bugger was an empty one. Started second cycle on friday and got scanned today, dr said looks positive at least two potential eggs. Its really scary with such low numbers but im hoping ive done enough to make the quality good enough.
Hi Purplewitch, thanks for answering. I am wondering whether the doctors are using the right treatments. Do you also have very low AMH? Are they giving you any stimulation or are they just collecting what is produced naturally?
My amh is low yes, its 2.8. Which for my age isnt too bad and women with endo tend to have low amh also. The first clinic i went to wanted me on all the drugs at the highest doses, just purely based on my age. After doing my research its actually pointless to put a woman with a low amh of my age on all those drugs. If anything i may have had one or two eggs more at the most and the quality wouldve most likely been bad so id have ended up with one or two anyway. I was also really concerned about the stimms flaring up my endo and making me really unwell, i am lucky enough to have a five year old and im not prepared to make myself too ill to look after her properly. So i changed clinics and our consultant completely agreed that a natural cycle was the way to go. So they have gone by my hormone levels at each blood test, if i need a little stimulation i have it but only low doses. Last round i had 6 lots of injections in total and responded really well. This time its taking a little longer so ill have a little more stimulation. So i will have one dominant follicle that they will try and get, and they will also check the others as they will have grown to a decent size also, but ultimately they aim for one or two eggs. Its focused on quality rather than quantity.
Hi Lilly, we have chatted before but I can't remember about what - anyway have you changed protocols? I may have asked you this before!
I did my first 2 rounds at 41 and my 3rd round at 42, the change from long to short protocol made heaps of difference to my results and I did get a bfp but sadly lost it. I also have since had a miracle natural pregnancy but lost that one too.
I guess thats supposed to be a good news story in terms of over 42 there is still hope and my consultant has said I can go for round 4.. but I would look at changing your cycle/protocol/drugs and see if that impacts things
Remember it only takes one - maybe they will suggest a day 2 transfer - I have had that before too xx
I'm 43 and still trying. I am taking a lot of supplements and paying attention to my diet, it made a huge difference in terms of number of eggs which I produce. Changing protocol could also help.
