Castor oil packs for FET

Am thinking of using castor oil packs before my FET this time round. Any experience with them or advice? Do I need a specific pack or can I just get one on Amazon? Thanks all😊

Hi Hifer,

I’d had problems with my lining for months and my FET was cancelled in Nov because of it and also because of having fluid on my endometrium cavity.

I did a little test run this month as hoping to do a FET next month. I knew I was having a scan on day 10 of my cycle so when my period ended on day 5 I started the packs and also drank raspberry leaf tea to also help my lining.

My lining was at 7mm - compared to 5.8mm on day 12 of my cancelled cycle! I really believe these two things helped.

The packs you can make yourself or order the castor oil and use a cotton cloth or flannel. Also the tea must be raspberry LEAF tea from Holland & Barrett or Amazon. I have Heath & Heather.

Good luck! Xx

Amazing thanks so much for responding. I have a problem lining too!! What a difference in lining you got. You then just put a hot water bottle on top right? How long for, about 30 mins?? Xx

Yes I was so pleased! Unfortunately I need to have a hysteroscopy which is why I didnt go ahead this time but hoping for Feb and I know what to do now!

So flannel with oil, cling film or a towel on top(I used a tea towel) and then hot water bottle on top for 30-40mins. I’d then rub in some of the oil left on my tum. It’s actually so relaxing and I think that’s such a bonus too. I’ve really felt quite on edge this week so can tell how much relaxing benefited me last week.

Only do once period ends until ovulation or transfer xx

I’ve been doing the same as CLD this month. My last FET was also cancelled due to a thin lining and I’m currently on my meds for my next attempt, so I started the castor oil packs once my period had ended and have been drinking the raspberry leaf tea. It’s the first time I’ve tried it. I’ve got a scan at the weekend so I’ll let you know how I get on xx

Please do, I’d love to know and wishing you all the very best. Good luck xx

So I had my scan, unfortunately my lining still isn’t looking great 🙄 It was at 5.8mm at day 14. It was 5.5mm at day 16 last time so a little thicker. I’m not out just yet, they’ve given me another week to see if it improves.

I would still encourage people to do the castor oil packs though as I do think they’ve worked for other people and if anything I enjoy the excuse to sit down and relax for 30 mins each night 😊 xx

Oh flippin’ linings!! Really hope it picks up. Are you on Progynova and patches? X

Lavender96 profile image
Lavender96 in reply tohifer

I know, my lining is the bane of my life 😕 I’ve been taking 12mg Progynova a day and have the patches. I asked if I can up the dose during this next week and the nurse said ‘that would be way to much oestrogen for one body to take’.

Last time it went from 5.5mm to about 6.6mm in the last week (which was still to thin for them), and they had doubled my dose to what I’m on now in that last week.

How are you finding the castor oil packs? xx

hifer profile image
hifer in reply toLavender96

Oh god I’m with you all the way! Am also on 12mg and the patches 🤞🤞. Like you my blood responds to the oestrogen but my lining doesn’t!! It’s at least a really good think that they aren’t going to give you too many drugs. Last time my lining got thinner as I went along 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️. These things are sent to try us. When do they have to make the call for you? Xx

Lavender96 profile image
Lavender96 in reply tohifer

Oh that’s happened to me as well, couldn’t believe it when they told me it had got thinner 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄 I’ve got another scan on Saturday, they want to get it to 7mm so it depends how close is it. If it’s 6.6mm like last time I’ll see if they’ll give me a few days longer. I don’t know how long they’ll be willing to let me stay on them though. Honestly don’t know what else to try, feel like I’ve done everything I can!

Is your scan soon? xx

hifer in reply toLavender96

Keeping everything crossed for you 🤞🤞. I had my scan this morning and it was 6.8mm but it was the same this time last round and then got thinner so we just need to give it a bit of time and see where we are on Wednesday/ Thursday. Meant to say that I haven’t started the castor oil packs as yet as only on day 5 of cycle but I’m going to start today. Xx

Ahh thank you 😊 it sounds very similar to me. It got thinner after my baseline scan on day 5 last time. I didn’t have a scan until day 14 this time round. I kept my pack on longer last night and will try to do that for the rest of this week. Good luck with your next scan, fingers crossed for you too🤞🏼xx

Amazing tips CLDxxx Was the fluid still there on this last scan?

Thanks ☺️ it was but had moved down so they said more time and another period may clear it but I’ve opted for the hysteroscopy to speed things up. Xx

I have used these too. I made my own just ordered the oil and used a flannel and cling film. I usually leave on for about 20 minutes and listen to my mindful app. Whether it makes a difference of not I don’t know but is really relaxing. Good luck x x

Thanks so much. Anything that’s relaxing is a bonus anyway so I’ll def be trying it. Xx

May I ask why your using castor oil packs? I've just been rubbing castor oil directly onto my stomach and then using a hot water bottle for 20 mins. Worried that I've been doing it all wrong now. My 1sr scan is on Friday.

hifer profile image
hifer in reply toRainbowhope

It doesn’t sound like you’re doing it wrong! It’s meant to be good for blood circulation and in my case I want a good supply of blood to my uterus. It’s advised between the end of your period and ovulation. A lot of people do also say that it’s good for relaxation which I could also do with 😊

As long as the oil is heating up that’s the main thing as it will then be absorbed, but just be careful to not have your bottle too hot xx

Sorry don’t mean to keep asking questions but how much castor oil do you put on the flannel? Do you completely soak it through? Currently it’s just on one side of the flannel with it folded over and wondering if I haven’t got enough!! Also do you then just pop the flannel in the fridge to use the following day?? Thanks xx

CLDxxx profile image
CLDxxx in reply tohifer

No worries at all! Ask away ☺️it needs to be saturated but not dripping and yes I keep in fridge.

I’ve popped a link below that my friend who lives in Oz got sent by her acupuncturist. She also suggested not using cling film & use a tea towel instead but it’s not an issue if you’d rather use cling film

Xxx

I’ve done these too if anything it’s nice and relaxing if it works or not🤷🏻‍♀️ does anything work?

Who knows indeed?? Impossible to tell as often we change more than one thing at a time per cycle. This one makes sense to me though and I need all the blood I can get in my uterus!! Like you and many others say though, it seems relaxing so I’m happy with that if nothing else!

Ive done these to help with my endometriosis. I got pukka castor oil from holland and barret, get a glass jar with a lid to keep your soaked flannel in and just add a bit of castor oil when it needs it. Make sure your flannel is white as castor oil make dye leak out, the oil also stains so dont get it on clothes or bedding. You need a sheet of plastic over the flannel, i pull a sandwhich bag in half, and place a hot water bottle or a heat pad on top, then cover with a towel and realx for half an hour x
