Constipation - 2ww/very early pregnancy

Hi ladies,

Was just wondering if i could get some advice. This might be a little TMI, so i apologise in advance.

Last night when i went for a number 2 i had to strain a little - not a great deal, but still had to strain to get things moving. If i didn't i would've been in agony. Only now i'm worried that i shouldn't have done this. I have got fybogel since so that i don't have the same problem again. I have just got my bfp so it's really worrying me. Technically i'm still in the 2ww, as OTD is still 4 days away.

Just need some reassurances x

Hi Lilac, just wanted to give you some reassurance!

Constipation was one of my first symptoms and lasted a while, it was quite uncomfortable and not nice but I’m sure that doing whatever you need to do to ‘go’ is absolutely fine. If you have your BFP then your little one is snuggled in nice and tight and pushing or straining will have no negative impact.

As I said I have had constipation lots and am now 30 weeks pregnant.

Good luck for a healthy pregnancy x

Thank you, that is reassuring. Everything is such a big worry right now - even going to the loo lol x

Congratulations to you as said by Franco I'm sure it's had no negative affect on your little bean but can understand your worry

One tip would be to drink lots of hot drinks I was advised after gyne surgery to do this to aid with getting constipated. One thing I found helped when I was in early pregnancy was drinking hot water with lemon In (check if safe) or drinking peppermint tea which also helped to keep nausea away. anything like fruity herbal teas as the hot liquid helps things to keep moving (though please stay away from raspberry tea or anything tropical with pineapple in).

Good luck and hope all keeps well xx

Thank you for that. I have started feeling a bit queasy, but nothing i cannot handle atm. I hadn't thought of peppermint tea, will give it a shot x

Hi

My nasuea wasnt too bad just an unsettled feeling, occasionally would wake up early hours feeling sick. I found the peppermint tea helped to prevent a lot of it. Any little helps 😊X x

I had constipation during my tww. I’ve had my first BFP with my first cycle. I also had cramping and tiredness. Xx

Thanks hun. You too cx

Morning, it’s so easy to say “try not to worry” but honestly your little embaby is tucked up nice and safe. I also suffered with constipation and very trapped wind on my 2ww and I’m now 7wks 6days 🙏🏻 I found weeabix with yogurt and strawberries help get things moving for me but there are still times I can wait 2-3 days until I go, hospital recommended lactalose and this doesn’t just help quicken the process but also makes it a bit softer 🤞🏻 Everything crossed for you ❤️

Eating Kiwi fruit helps a lot, good luck with everything

Congrats on your BFP!

The risk of "pushing" too hard is that you might have hemorrhage which is why it's not recommended to "push" too hard.

I think you better stay away from tea unless you've done your research that the tea you're about to drink won't contract the uterus, e.g. raspberry tea does BTW.

You have constipation maybe cos you had egg collection not long before your embryo transfer as part of the IVF and if you're having FET, I guess your RE asked you to take some progesterone, and this can cause constipation too.

Reewills1 is right, kiwi helps, so basically fiber in e.g. spinach and other green leafy veggies, apple, etc. (you can google what can relieve constipation) and drink lots of water. For example yesterday for dinner I had beef stew with veggies like carrots, sweet potatoes, and peas and for supper I had Chinese noodle soup with bak choi and carrots and it's the first time I didn't have to strain even tho my progesterone has been upped 2/3 more about 2 days since my 1st beta (yesterday I was 4w5d) so I think the veggies and water in drinking water and soup indeed help.

Thank you for that info. I do need to improve my diet. I think diet is the biggest thing for me. I've been trying to drink lots of water, and the days that i do, i don't have much of a problem. Need incorporate more fruits and veg in my diet x
