Hi, I've just had my first ultrasound tonight after struggling to conceive. The nurse said everything looked normal but she could see two very small fibroids in my womb. She said it's unlikely the consultant will do anything about these as I'm not suffering from heavy periods or anything. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Thank you.

I have a big fibroid in the middle of my heart shaped womb they won’t remove mine as it could cause a bleed they mention about removing them ? Xxx
I've had one for a while, before and during pregnancy. They said the location wouldn't affect conceiving or pregnancy and just let it be. I think it depends a lot on size and location whether they need to do anything. Best of luck xxx
Hi.. I found out that I have a fibroid when I had one of my scans during the first part of my ivf treatment. I’ve had many scans and no one has ever mentioned it till I was in the middle of my injections. Due to the positioning of it I was told there was nothing for me to worry about xx
I have 3 small fibroids. I know about them for more than 10 years. Location, size, evolution and impact on the period are important in deciding if an intervention is required. My period is usually heavier, but until now, none of the doctors I have seen suggested an intervention. Not sure if they had an impact on my fertility.
There are also some that say that a pregnancy can help (size reduction), while others say that they can never decrease in size.
Having an intervention will require some time also for healing, so any fertility treatments would be postponed. Also, scar tissue could appear and this could impact fertility.
I got pregnant through ivf, during the pregnancy one of the fibroids increased slightly and now after birth I will see how things evolve.
A friend of mine, who lives in Canada, has a 10 cm fibroid and at least for the fertility treatment and egg collection, no prior intervention on the fibroid was required. However, for a pregnancy, I assume she will need to have it solved before that.
Hi Sarah,
She’s probably right, as long as you’re not symptomatic (heavy periods, pain etc) and it does not intervene with the baby no need to remove it.
I had 13 fibroids all ranging between 5-17cms and they needed to remove most especially those above 10cms. I was bloated, pelvic pain, heavy bleeds and it would have complicated any future pregnancy.
They ended up removing 11 (thankfully) and I now have 2 smaller ones that shouldn’t be problematic. It’s the best decision I’ve ever made. My periods are not only lighter but the pain is tolerable.
Have another discussion with your doctor and if they pose no concern, leave them! I lived with mine for years until I had to say goodbye to them.
