Sorry in advance if I am not using the correct terminology.
I am 42 and have one genetic tested embryo ready to go from my second round (which yielded 6 Blastocysts but when they were all tested only one was ‘viable’).
The Embryo is Average Quality (3bc) so I think 80% thaw rate.
I don’t know if I should -
1) Go ahead with frozen transfer using the tested embryo that I have and give IVF a break for now; or
2) Do a third cycle in the hope that I produce more tested embryos and immediately afterwards do a frozen embryo transfer of the existing tested embryo.

Thanks

Congrats on the normal embryo - I'm in similar shoes and I'm just doing cycles back to back to collect more normal embryos before transferring. My initial goal was to get 4 normal embryos but so far, after 5 rounds, I can't seem to get past 2.
Hi @dogpark Hope you are doing OK. We have similar paths. Thank you again for all your advice.
I guess there is an improvement from my first round which was absolutely nothing after testing. In two minds now whether to do a final round in December and tag on at the end the existing Frozen Transfer?
My strategy has been to collect as many embryos as possible while I was still 42 and then to take a break, do an ERA test and only then transfer.
So if you were me you go for another round now in December, and not necessarily transfer immediately after, but make sure your body is ready for transfer.
It's so hard to collect these normal embryos isn't it?
Tell me about it. I really thought for our age group there would be a 30% chance of the embryo being normal so with 6 collected thought there would at least be 2 or 3. This is such tough going but somehow I am managing to gather inner strength. 🌟 the 80% thaw rate is worrying.
I was told that for ages 41-42, only 16% of embryos are normal (at my clinic) so - I should have had 3 normal by now. Given that I had one transfer of 2 non tested embryos, I suppose that I may have transferred a normal embryo already.
I have been doing 2 or 3 cycles back to back at times. See what your consultant says. Also, my normal embryos are of average quality (6B+B- both of them) yet their thaw success rates are always 95% regardless of embryo quality. I think these rates depend on the lab rather than the embryo quality.
Keep strong @dogpark and thank you for sharing knowledge on the IVF process. I have just researched ERA as did not know anything about this test and will raise with consultant.
Give it a go. I was 44 and never had mine graded. They always put back after 3 days and none survived to be frozen. Am happily now 32 weeks pregnant with a hearty boy. Good luck whatever you decide. I only takes one!
I couldn't start 'first' cycle as lining was too thick. So I had success on my 2nd cycle. I feel very lucky
Hi,
Congrats on your good embryo 😀
Personally I would give It a go, you always have time for another round soon after trying if it doesn't work... A few months shouldnt make a huge difference.
We got 3 good embryos after genetic testing and I am now pregnant with the first.
Congrats on your PGS normal! The stats at my clinic are 20% of blasts for 40-41 will be PGS normal so you’re doing good!
In terms of what to do, only you can make that decision. However, a few things worth considering:
- hopefully this embryo will implant and result in a live birth. In this scenario you need to consider if you might want another child in future (don’t know if you have any already) and therefore another cycle before you transfer might give you that possibility.
- if it implants and you miscarry it will be a good 3-4months before you can try again from the time you get pregnant (coming from someone who’s miscarried twice from transfer of untested embryos - once at 9 weeks and once at 8.5 weeks).
- if it doesn’t implant the timeframe to try again is clearly much shorter.
These are just practical points, as none of us know what the outcome of any FET will be, albeit you have a very good chance my point 1 will happen.
I am 41 and trying for my second. When trying for my first I couldn’t even fathom getting to the point of trying again so didn’t think too much beyond having baby number 1. I am now clearly older and the odds are less.
Let us know what you decide and wishing you lots of luck when you do proceed to your transfer. X
Yesterday, decided to do stims back to back now I think I want a mini break and to resume Jan. My clinic nurse called to say they advise a month off after stims to let the ovaries rest but I think that’s if you are doing fresh transfer. As I am freeze all the back to back may be ok but I have not had a proper chance to discuss with consultant. I really want to know whether back to back (freeze) has an impact on outcome and health.
I would like to resume my Ubiquinol and have a general rest though ☀️
Hi can I ask how much people are paying for the embryo testing and what clinics you're at?we are considering embryo testing but worried about the mixed reviews it gets.have had 4 failed ivfs.please help. Oh and what on earth is era?lol x thanks
Hi, I am also 42 and have normal pgs embryo which is 4b.. My doctor already suggested I could either go for another round of egg collection or a frozen embryo transfer. I have decided to go for a FET by early December as I believe it would work. Go with your intuition.
Hi @dreambaby Thanks for sharing. Wishing you all the best for December FET. Nice to hear we have similar paths. I am still deciding. Let’s stay strong.
