I'm on 750mg x 3 daily and I can't handle it. Constant thing headache, nausea, vomited for the first time yesterday. Is this normal? It's been my 4th week on 3 x daily and seems to be getting worse. Yesterday I cut all carbs and it was my worst day yet...if it gets better when?
I started gradually first week x1, second week x 2 daily then last week and this week x3 daily but the nausea and headaches and weakness/tiredness is unbearable. How long does it last? Is this normal?

I ve been on Metformin for more than 4 years and there are times were it still makes me sick. Very normal unfortunately. It takes sometime for your body to adjust to it. That was the case for me. There were times were I wanted to stop taking them, but I never did. Hang in there xxxxx
4 years!!! You need a medal! There is no way I can keep living like this is debilitating. What dosage are you on? I'm going to ask Dr to lower it today otherwise I'm coming off it. I don't even know if I really need it as I have boardline polycystic ovaries (not syndrome). What does it even do again?
Me too I had the syndrome mot full pcos. Im on 1500 daily. The first month is the worst. The body needs to adjust a bit. I now use glucophage instead of Metformin. I find it less stresfull on my body
Oh interesting. I'm on a really high dose 2250 a day. I'm going to ask to go down to 1500 per day. When you have your scans do you see less follicles now? Is that what it does?
Yes dear... Pcos makes lots of little follicles like a string of pearls on the ovary.. I no longer see that in scans. So metformin helped me a lot xxxx
Hi sorry to hear you are feeling so poorly, i was also told to take 3x 500mg of Metformin because of PCOS and physically there was no way i could cope with the side effects. I spoke with my clinic and they let me reduce the dosage to 1x 500mg per day and the nurse said to me don't worry about not taking the full dosage you will still get what you need from the lower dosage, there is no need to suffer if you can't take the side effects.
I am now 11 weeks pregnant so i guess the lower dose still worked for me. Good luck with everything xx
Thank you Yes i have been told to continue to take it all the way through the pregnancy however when i spoke to the midwife she was suprised and said she would speak to the consultant so fingers crossed she says i can stop taking it. I agree it really is an awful drug xx
I’m not on as high of a dose as you, but I couldn’t cope with the sickness and nausea. When I explained how I was feeling my consultant switched me to a slow release tablet that I take in the evening and problem solved. I get the benefits and don’t get the side effects any longer
