I just got home from egg collection. Although the procedure its self was no where near as bad as envisioned my results were a let down. Only 3 eggs collected. The embryologist came in afterwards and her mood was just apologetic and just ‘meh’ so it left me feeling even worse like she’s didn’t want to deliver bad news that our eggs aren’t as good as needed. She did say she won’t know till they start the ‘clean up’ to know the quality so I’m probably looking into it too much. But just gutted really. I know we only need 1 but it’s scary knowing that they may not mature or even fertilize. She also suggested a 2 day transfer when initially we was told it was going to be a 5 day transfer at blastocyst. Is there any disadvantage to a 2 day vs a 5 day?

Dismal Egg collection 😔
I don’t know about the difference between a 2 day or 5 day but try and stay positive until you hear differently...
I was pretty much told that only one of mine was looking ‘normal’ and I honestly thought we were out of the game over the weekend and then they rang me on the Monday and said that 3 had made it to blastocyst so you honestly just never know... I’ll have my fingers crossed for you x
Hi Rebecca. I can fully understand how disappointed you are feeling. Sometimes though, an embryo that is a slow divider, can maturebetter when back inside you where it belongs. Years ago, we only did day 2 & 3 transfers as we didn’t have the expertise to progress them further. We still got babies, so fingers crossed. Diane
Hey ya. We only managed to get 4 eggs and only 3 were fertilised. We had 2 put back in on day 5 as they were poor quality and I’m now 2dp5dt. Not hopeful in the slightest! Fingers crossed they give you some info soon as it’s already hard enough let alone not knowing what will happen next. My clinic said 5 day transfer were more successful than 2 but who knows. It’s all just pot luck!
Hello. I only had 2 eggs collected back in May and now I’m 23 weeks pregnant. I had a 3dt. Very best of luck for the phone call. Fingers crossed for you!! 🤞🏻✨Xx
Hi Rebecca, I don’t think there’s a disadvantage to a 2 day vs a 5 day per se. Each is the best option depending on the development of the egg at the time. Having a 2 day transfer is what is believed to be best for an egg if it’s developing slower. A 5 day transfer is believed best for an egg that is showing better development. The opinion is that if an egg makes it to the blastocyst stage on day 5, then it is more likely to continue to develop and successfully implant. Where an egg develops more slowly better that the egg is back inside you earlier where it is in a more natural environment and consequently might fair better. Day 2 transfers can be successful and many are so don’t lose heart if that’s what’s required. Having said all that, you’re yet to know the quality of your eggs and numbers shouldn’t determine the day of transfer, the quality should. I think the embryologist’s advice was a little premature so keep your fingers crossed and stay hopeful. You very well might transfer on day 5. Good luck....x
Oh my lovely I can only appreciate how you feel I had mine last week and it was 6 so I know a little
More but my bloody heart sank and I cried through the whole day after. Who knows
What will happen all I can say is take one day at a time and take deep
Breaths and fingers crossed and look after yourself. My results weren’t great but our results at 5 day blastocyst surprised us. You just never know. And remeber don’t compare to others. This is ur journey. Sending hugs and love xxx
I’m sorry that egg EC didn’t go as well as you would have hoped. It’s totally understandable you feel disappointed. Every step of this process feels like such a bloody lottery, so much potential for let down and it can leave you feeling so helpless with all the waiting. Like others have said day 2 transfers can be successful (and I’ve read about so many on here who have had success on day 2 or 3 transfers despite feeling like there was minimal chance) so please don’t lose hope. Got my fingers crossed that they both fertilise and are strong little fighters that keep developing. Lots of luck xxxx
Totally feel your pain. My collection was the other week, I was elated when they collected 5 eggs, we were only expecting 3. Then I literally walked in the front door and the clinic phoned to say only 1 was mature 😢. It did fertilise, and was 6 cells on day 3. My clinic like to push for day 5 transfer. However on day 5 it hadn’t progressed any further than day 3, I was totally gutted. Felt like such a waste. Anyhow on day 6 the clinic called back as it had started to organise itself!! Still wasn’t a blast but I had a put back and was told I literally had 0% chance of getting pregnant from it! Anyway I’m at some point in my my 2WW....feeling so blasé about it!!
Keeping everything crossed your 3 precious little eggs fertilise over night 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
Thanks for your kind words of encouragement it means a lot how supportive this community is. We haven’t told anyone about this so it’s such a relief to be able to talk about it on here especially when we are all in the same boat. I really really hope your lil embryo fights against the odds, it’s already surprised you once so there’s still hope. Fingers crossed for your test day xx
Hello. This whole process is so hard, and I think you have done amazingly well. Fingers crossed for your eggs, stay positive and wishing you all the best xx
Big hugs xxx Please don't feel bad. I know you wished more were collected but some is always better than none. You've done all you can.
If they can do a day 5 transfer, that's great but I have also known members here who have done a day2 and they got through it.
As they say, they only need the 1 good egg.
My best wishes to you!
