Im looking for some advise if anyone can offer anything it would be greatly appreciated!
I am in a same sex civil partnership and therefore looking IUI treatment.
So i had a consultation with GCRM in Belfast in April this year about IUI treatment. Everything went great - results, everything on my side is great.
We then decided to head to Spain as well to put it bluntly they are alot cheaper than here in the UK. I had my consultation with them on Monday past (16th September). We had went there with the hope of talking about IUI treatment, however, the doctor has advised IVF treatment. I know IVF success rates are abit higher than IUI success rates but im so so confused over everything.
The Doctor at IVF Spain explained she needed to see a minimum of 6 eggs when she did the examination and she could physically see 28. She even suggested egg donation and everything.
Has anyone been through this before or been given this advise?
Would anyone suggest to just go forward with IUI treatment?
Thanks,
Debbie

I did one round of IUI but the chances of it working are so small that I stopped there because of the cost. I think because we needed donor sperm that meant each IUI had an extra £1000 on top that it seemed too expensive to try again.
It’s worth a shot though as IUI is much less invasive than IVF and it does work first time for some people.
Hi. I’ve had three rounds of IUI. I was told there was a 15% chance of it working. Unfortunately we were unsuccessful, and are moving forward with IVF. I know that IUI works for some people. We were fortunate that our IUI was NHS funded. But if I was paying privately I personally would advice going for IVF, if that’s a path you want to go down. I wish you all the best with whatever treatment you decide 😊❤️ xx
We are going private as we're from Northern Ireland and unfortunately there is nothing in place here with the NHS for same sex couples.
I had my first consultation in April this year and my AMH was 62.8 which i was told was very high. I had my second consultation on Monday past and my AMH result was 62.7. Basically ive been told im "too fertile" and i shouldnt consider IUI, only IVF.
Obviously money is a massive issue with regards to our choice. IUI in Spain is costing around 1800euro including sperm which we have ready to go. IVF in Spain is costing around 8000euro including sperm and medication which unfortunately would mean another year or so of saving.
I just dont know what to do, should we chance our arm and go for one IUI or just hold off and go for IVF x
Hi Debs. Well, I suppose if your Fallopian tubes are OK and you are seeing plenty of follicles (not eggs) on your ovaries, you could be in with a good chance using IUI. Obviously IVF is more controlled, and hopefully you would get some leftover embryos to store frozen. That way, should the IVF not work. you get to use a frozen embryo on a natural cycle without all the drugs next time. Only you two can make the decision, but often going abroad, people incorporate their treatment in with a holiday, which adds for relaxation. I wish you both well with whatever you decide - and for success! Diane
