What a day. Was all going well, they retrieved 5 eggs, was only on track to get 3 with my low AMH of 6. But embryologist just called to say only one egg was mature 😥. Totally gutted. They found a good motile sperm to inject it with but will have to wait until tomorrow to see if it fertilises. If it does they want to keep it until blastocyst on Sunday, I’m thinking I want it back in me ASAP. Any thoughts?
Also wondering if they had adapted my protocol more, not triggered so early whether more of the eggs would have been mature?? Any advice?

Hey, on my first cycle most of my eggs where immature so they gave me a dual trigger shot with buserelin as well on the second cycle, this time all the eggs where mature plus I stayed on the stimms for longer. 🤞 your little egg fertilises, remember it’s not always quantity but quality, I’ll keep everything crossed for you xxxx

Hi, it really is hard to tell unless your protocol is adjusted. However don’t be too hasty to have your egg transferred on the basis that it’s the only one you have. There’s a reason why embryologists prefer to wait until day 5 to transfer and that’s because the chance of a successful pregnancy increases. Egg transfer schedules are based on how the egg develops and not the quantity of eggs available so do try to be patient. I know it’s hard but it’s in your best interest to be guided by professionals at this stage. Don’t allow your fear to push your towards a more unsuccessful outcome if there’s an alternative where the odds are more favourable. Hoping this egg is all that’s needed for you...x

To be fair to the clinic it’s my second cycle. I had exactly same protocol as my first cycle which gave me my daughter. Fingers crossed for my little egg. Thanks x

Sorry that you didn’t get the results you were hoping for. I totally understand that feeling. This process can be so bloody stressful and disappointing and so often we don’t get the answers we would like. Try not to lose hope. I know it sounds a bit cliched the whole “it only takes one” but there are so many examples on here of women who have had success with the one and only embryo that they had all but written off! Lots of luck xx

Personally I would be looking to transfer the embryo back in on day 3 if it fertilises. We used a protocol that typically only gets one follicle and so hopefully one egg and it went back in and gave us our daughter. This is after 5 rounds of a long, high drugs protocol where we had eggs transferred at a variety of stages. My AMH when tested years ago was 1.3. Good luck whatever you decide.xx
Just keep positive you only need that one little miracle. I have always been told that is better to allow the embryo to develop to a blastocyst. My first cycle was nhs funded and they only allowed my embryos to go to day 3 (failed cycle). When we went private their words to me were they would always push embryos to day 5 because of they wouldn’t make it in the lab until then they wouldn’t survive inside me. We are currently 25 weeks pregnant from the cycle. Good luck and keep positive for your little miracle xx
I am 38, I had a day 3 transfer of my only two embryos at my first cycle, one of these dud implant but sadly I later miscarried st 8 weeks. Embryos transferred at day 3 do result in a live pregnancy. My clinic didn’t explain why day 3 was advised over day 5, I know from reading up there are pros and cons to both - going to day 5 means they can see how the embryo is dividing, but for some women their embryo will not survive in the lab to day 5. Transfer at day 3 means it is back in the embryo where conditions are better, however it means they can’t assess how it goes on to develop. Talk to your doctor/s, ask them what their criteria are for day 3 vs 5 transfers. Fingers crossed for a positive phone call this morning 🍀
Hi, I have an amh of 5.4, they put me on triple the normal dose of meds and collected 7 eggs, 5 of which were mature, sounds like you weren’t on high enough meds. At the end of the day you only need one! They normally wait until day 5 to choose the strongest but with one I don’t see why they would wait? I think you have to trust them if you have a good doctor I'm sure they will answer any questions like this to help put your mind at ease. Im finding it's like a lottery we are all different and will respond differently. Nature is in charge here with a bit of help from science. Hard to manage but this forum helps. It’s hard when there’s a little bit of doubt! They got me my daughter so I’ll have to put doubts aside and trust they’ll get me a sibling for her. This forum is a life saver as we haven’t told anyone except my mum about this cycle. Nice to have lots of supportive friends I’ve never met 😂🤣x
Hi - I totally feel your pain. I had a level of 7.6...they retrieved 17 eggs but 12 were immature, I had exactly the same questions but they wouldn’t admit to any issues with their protocol or trigger. I think it’s best to wait until blastocyst as it would be implanted before then so you have more chance of success doing as they have suggested
Yep I can’t imagine they accept any liability. Personally I think I was triggered too early. Anyway my one little egg has fertilised over night!! One day at a time! Xxx
I’m sorry to hear your news. With low AMH this indicates most of your eggs have already run their course. And it’s the best eggs that are run through your cycle first, leaving the rest for later in life. This may be contributing to your experience. In my experience it’s not atypical for women with low ovarian reserve to have numbers like yours. But take heart. You’re on the path now.
It’s easy to image “what-if’s” in hindsight. But it’s an approximate business that involves some guess work when your doctor decides on your medication protocol. RE’s make adjustments based on your last cycle, but cycles vary from month to month so it’s not an absolute process. The good news is that you had six eggs, and one was mature enough to try with. You’re ahead of many others in similar circumstances to yourself.
I would strongly suggest that if your egg makes it to blasto 5 or 6, that you cryopreserve it and wait until you have completed another cycle naturally before you implant. Your body is full of the drugs that have gotten you this far, and those drugs will have thrown you into imbalance, leaving your endocrine system reeling and your endometrium less than receptive to implantation. Reproductive endocrinology procedures have progressed to a point where there is no advantage to a fresh transfer over a frozen transfer. Here in the states it’s much more common now to wait for your body to settle down before transfer of a frozen blasto.
Hey Tiddly! Our little embryo has made it to day 3, it’s 6 cell with minimal fragmentation. The clinic have convinced me it’s best to wait until day 5, so I don’t get my hopes up unnecessarily! So got to wait until 8.30am Sunday to hear whether shes fighting strong still and can be transferred 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻. Thanks for checking in xxx

I’ve got low AMH too... I think my level is lower than yours. We got 5 eggs but 2 were immature. 3 fertilised but then one of those was abnormal so we were left with 2. We had a double embryo transfer.
All it takes is 1 and throughout the whole process all the nurses said that to us. All you need is 1.
We did get a positive result but I’ve got low HCG and am currently bleeding and cramping so it’s not looking good but while we might not get a baby this time, I am currently pregnant and I’ve never been able to say that before in my life. Xxx
