Hello Ladies

I went for my follow up consultation today after having my baseline blood test an scan. The consultant said that she is happy for me to start my next cycle of IVF when I’m ready but she also said that they have changed the procedure. They now take eggs from me then when they get to day 5 blastocyst they freeze them. You then have them transferred the following month if ready or whenever I’m ready after. My worry is my eggs on my previous 3 cycles have never got to blastocyst. I always had egg transfer at day 3.

My husband and i are considering starting our next cycle on my next period but I’m a bit worried about the egg quality and whether they will get go the blastocyst stage. As you might be aware i am recovering from Anorexia and the anorexic thoughts are strong but i need to eat well now to give it my best shot this time.

As anyone had a similar situation with fresh cycles only being day 3 then none left for freezing. Now having to go for egg retrieval that need to be frozen. Apparently this is a better success rate.

Thank you

Not heard of this but hope you’re doing well And stay strong. Day 5 blastocysts are medically proven to be stronger than day 3s but what if you don’t get to this? Good luck Hun. . Xxx

Thank you for your message. Im not sure what they will do if it doesn’t get to day 5, I’m guessing it just means trying again at some point. I just want it to work this time though as its our 4th attempt. Xx

This sounds a bit risky to me, I have only got to blasto once out of three cycles - would that mean two of those cycles would have been no transfer? I know loads of people on here who have got pregnant from day 2 and day 3 transfers... if I’ve understood it correctly I would feel like they were restricting my chances not improving them... but that’s just my take on things x

Yeah my clinic don’t like to freeze anything that doesn’t get to a 5 day blast. Given that I’m only to have freeze all cycles I found this really frustrating as the numbers are going to be really low for freezing. I got one from the first round.

Are they changing your protocol to try to improve the quality? Obviously 5 day blasts are more successful but it’s getting to that stage that’s the issue.

Wishing you lots of luck xx

Thanks for your reply. Ive always done the long protocol. Once they freeze the eggs if any make it. Do some not survive the thaw, I’m knew to the freezing part of it, Ive only ever done fresh transfers.

Thank you xx
