Underestimated post collection feelings

First egg collection (first ever ivf cycle) was Yesterday. 10 collected, 7 mature and we just got the call that 5 have fertilised normally.

I think I underestimated both the discomfort I’m feeling physically and the stress as we drop 50% in the first 24 hours!

How has everyone else felt/ dealt with this? I keep telling myself it’s out of our hands now but feel the time pressure of being 41 very much.

That’s really good numbers and at our age a 50% fertilisation rate is expected! Use the mindful ivf app to try and stay calm!

I always have at least one day on the sofa post EC and lots of painkillers, I also get really constipated (sorry if too much info but common issue) so laxatives help! Good luck xx

Thank you. I’m ok on that front but very sore sitting, going to the toilet etc. hoping I’ll be better tomorrow when I am due back at work! I think I need to find ways to distract myself so the app sounds good x

I know it doesn't feel like it, but that's a great amount - they've fertilised so just keep positive. Just to put it into perspective, in my first round they retrieved 4 eggs and by the next day I had 2 remaining. Both made it to blastocyst stage and my second and final transfer resulted in my wonderful son

Just try to remain positive and work on getting yourself mentally and physically prepared for the transfer, as the 2ww is a whole other roller coaster of emotions. Best if luck!

That sounds a fantastic amount! I had my first collection last Tuesday and I found it quite uncomfortable for a good few days. I kept the wheat bag on and topped up on paracetamols. The strangest thing to me was how my bladder felt, almost like I had a water infection, very strange xx

50% is bang on target for what they would expect so well done! Try not to be too disheartened if they don’t all make day 5, approximately 50% of your embryos from the first 24 hours will make day 5, but remember, that’s actually normal. It’s an old one but it’s also true: it’s not quantity it’s quality xx
