*UPDATE Its bad news😔* Head is in bits... heavy bleeding, passing clots and severe cramping 5weeks 1day.

I have had one episode of very light spotting (day after having the positive test) and I have had cramping since the transfer.

I got up this morning was pottering about and felt a bit dizzy and my cramping increased. So I went back to bed and woke up at my alarm at 9 (when I normally do my pessaries). I went for a wee and wiped there was a lot of blood and a clot. It felt like my heart had been ripped out. I rang my partner he came straight home from work and phoned the clinic for me.

I went to the clinic for my bloods they told me they would phone me to tell me if I needed to have them done again on Wednesday or not (by not I gathered they would mean my numbers would be too low indicating a miscarriage).

The clinic rang me before and said my levels are "really good" and the consultant is "happy with them" and he wants me to go for a scan on Friday. I ask if they was still a good result even though I am still bleeding and she said yes. She told me to rest completely now and continue with the medication. She said my beta HCG was 1706 and that was what is should be for 5 weeks.

Since my first bleed this morning the bleeding has continued and I have passed several clots. I haven't stopped crying and I just feel numb.

Has anyone else experienced this and still had a viable pregnancy?

Would my HCG have dropped before I started bleeding? Or does is start to drop after the bleed? I don't know what to think.

Any advice would be appreciated.

*UPDATE* 14.08.2019 - 12:00

So I have had my scan and I am still none the wiser. The sonographer told me before we started it would be unlikely they would see anything to confirm anyway now because it is too early. They gave me a copy of the scan report incase anything happens and I need to go to hospital. No one gave anything anyway really, they all said the same thing, that we will have to wait until around 5pm tonight for my bloods and if bHCG hasn't doubled (so I'm hoping for over 3400) then it probably will indicate a miscarriage. Thanks again ladies for all your support, well wishes and hope it really does mean a lot. ❤

*UPDATE* 14.08.2019 - 18:00

We have had our call to say my bHCG has dropped to 130 so it's over for us. Part of me wishes I would have never got that positive test in the first place... because although I had never felt happiness like it, the pain and heartbreak I am feeling now is soo much worst! Thanks again ladies for all your support it has helped me more than you will ever know over the one of the hardest things we have ever been through ❤

It doesn’t necessarily mean bad news, hundreds of women have unexplained bleeding in early pregnancy and often never find out why. Masses of luck lovely xx

Hi,

I can only speak about my case. But, I had heavy to medium bleeding and some clots at 10 weeks pregnant. I had a private scan as the bleed happened over the weekend and the baby was fine. I was really relieved. I am now 31 weeks pregnant. I asked the EPU why it had happened. They said it does happen to some women and they go on to have a healthy pregnancy and it could be hormonal. I hope u and the baby will be though.

Thank you soo much for giving me a bit of hope. I am glad to hear your pregnancy is going well. If you don't mind me asking, how long did your bleeding last for? xx

in reply toJadeH92

It lasted for about 2 and half days, sometimes on and off with stringy clots. But, I rested completely with me feet up. I would have found too stressful to work anyway. But eventually went back to work, after this everything was fine.

The Doctor at the Emergency department said that women who miscarry tend to be in a lot of pain.

Thank you. My bleeding has only been very light for several hours now. More like a pink spotting however I have been passing small clots when I wee (sorry if TMI). My pain has been relatively bad but it usually is because of my endometriosis. Just don't know what to think. But thanks again for replying and wishing you lots of luck for a happy healthy pregnancy xx

Hi Jade, I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. Its such an awful experience. I'm currently 6w3d and last week I developed cramping and brown spotting on and off. I completely rested and things were improving but then on sat evening I had more intense cramps and passed quite a lot of red blood. The bleeding stopped relatively quickly but the cramps remained and i continued to have some brown spotting and discharge. I passed tiny thread like things yesterday but no obvious clots that i noticed. I was really worried but had my viability scan today and found out that they couldnt find the source of the bleeding but that all is well with my babies so far. The consultant told me that bleeding is quite common in pregnancy, and ivf pregnancies and its not necessarily a bad thing. Your clinic sound like they are happy with your hcg bloods (I cant advise there as I didnt have mine repeated) and the plan for your scan on friday. I know it is going to feel like a lifetime until then but try to rest as much as possible and remain as hopeful as possible. Will be thinking of you and hope all will be well with you and your baby xx

So pleased to hear everything is okay for you and your babies, I hope you continue to have a healthy pregnancy. Thank you for replying. I think it's the clots that are worrying me the most and I am still debating to phone the clinic tomorrow and just asking for repeat bloods on Wednesday anyway. Don't know if I will be able to wait without knowing anything until friday. Thank you for your kind words also xx

Thank you Jade. I think its difficult not to worry in situations like this. It seems like from some of the messages hear that a few ladies have been through similar experiences with clots too and all has turned out well for them and their baby so I really hope and pray that this is the same for you. I dont think it would do any harm for you to call your clinic again today and ask for another set of bloods sooner if it will help to give you more reassurance until your scan on friday. Thinking of you and hoping for a positive outcome xx

JadeH92 in reply toPoppy_2018

Thank you so much! I rang the clinic I spoke to the nurse who did my bloods yesterday. She said she spoke to the consultant and explained how upset I was yesterday and he agreed waiting until Friday is too long for my emotional wellbeing so they have moved it forward to tomorrow. She said they might not be able to see the heartbeat on the scan because it might be too soon but they might be able to see the sac. But I'll be having my bloods done so will know if they have dropped anyway xx

Poppy_2018 in reply toJadeH92

Aww Jade I'm so glad that your clinic have been really understanding and will repeat your bloods tomorrow and attempt to do a scan. That's great. At least you are prepared that it may be a touch too early for the scan but that your blood results will hopefully give you more reassurance if that is the case. I hope things have eased off a bit now and you have been able to try and relax a bit (I know all to well that's not easy but try as best you can). Fingers crossed for tomorrow 🤞🥰🤗 xx

So sorry to hear things did not work out for you Cinderella but thank you for your reassurance also. Yeah I just don't know what to think at the moment. Haven't been able to sleep, still feel numb and head is working over time, but I didn't expect to get much sleep. Sorry to ask did you continue to bleed heavily I think I am trying to cling on to hope that that bleeding has slowed down. Thank you for replying xx

Its a horrible situation to be in, you can ask me anything! PM me if you dont want to put it on the main page! Its good that you have a scan on Friday although Im sure that feels like an age away. My symptoms all but stopped after my bleed and I just kind of knew it wasnt right for me.xx

25% women bleed in early pregnancy and go on to have healthy babies. Cervical irritation from pessaries common as is subchorionic hemorrhage. Both self correct. Your bhcg really good. Try to stay calm , rest and look forward to a great scan and repeat bhcg.

Sorry you’re going through this. It’s devastating. I had a horrendous bleed at 5 weeks, pouring blood and losing large clots. I went to the early pregnancy unit and they told me I was having a miscarriage. The bleeding stopped, my HCG kept increasing and a heartbeat was detected a few days later.

They never found the source of the bleeding and I’ve never bled since. I’m 10 weeks today. I’ve had a few private reassurance scans and everything is normal, the baby was wriggling around on Friday and had 182 bpm heart rate.

Please don’t lose hope. My midwife told me sometimes this happens and they don’t know why but women do go on to have successful pregnancies. Wishing you the best of luck x

Soo pleased to hear you are continuing to have a healthy pregnancy especially despite the bleed. I really hope you continue to have a healthy pregnancy also. Thank you for giving me some hope that sounds exactly like what I have experienced so far (with the bleeding) hopefully the scan and bloods tomorrow will give me some good news. Take care! xx

Hi lovely I hope you’re ok. You’re stomach literally drops out when you see blood.

I had bleeding at 5 weeks, clots, back ache and cramping it was awful, I was devastated and thought that was it. Hosp got me in for a scan which showed a pregnancy sack and no reason for the bleeding! I had it for a few days. I bled again at 7 the 8 weeks. I’m now 16 weeks pregnant (still convinced something will go wrong)

You’re bloods are a good sign, I have everything crossed for you and really hope the bleeding stops soon! Lots of love xxx

It certainly does Mrs zw. I have never experienced an emotion like it when I first saw that blood. I am glad everything is healthy with your pregnancy just sorry to hear you are not very confident due to the bleeding. I really hope you continue to have a healthy pregnancy. I had bleeding and clots and it turned out to be an irritated lining from the pessaries and they told me to start doing them rectally and the bleeding should stop so I did and it worked. I now have a healthy nearly 5 month old daughter. Keeping everything crossed for you xx

Thats amazing news! Thank you for your reassurance. I am really trying to remain positive because I have come to the conclusion that worrying I will be told the worst tomorrow will not make that blow any easier so it is pointless. xx

Hi just wanted to share my experience (ivf pregnancy) I started bleeding at 5 weeks red but it was light at the time, then at 9 weeks I passed a huge clot and had a really heavy red bleed straight after it along with more large clots, I thought it was all over I had to wait 2 days to find out if the pregnancy was still there, longest 2 days of my life. In the end it turned out I had a subchronic hemotoma and the baby was just fine. The red bleeding stopped after the second day but I continued to have brown bleeding/spotting with stringy bits. This lasted quite a while for me I'm now 17 weeks and it's only just stopped. Hang in there, it isn't always bad news. I have my fingers crossed for you. X

I have a very similar story at 5w4d, heavy bleeding with large clots, cramping and was convinced it was all over, I was a complete mess but the clinic phoned and said my bloods were good, a couple of days later I had a scan at exactly 6w and saw the heartbeat, I was in total shock! Bleeding was unexplained, had another bleed the following week and again a scan at 7w1d showed the pregnancy continuing and bleeding unexplained. I’m now 21w5d pregnant so I guess it can just be one of those things! Try not to give up hope, there’s lots of us out here who have had significant bleeds and still progressed with a healthy pregnancy 😊x
