Implantation failure

Hey! FirstLy, has anyone ever had just a ‘bad batch’ from a stim cycle with none of their embryos from that round having implanted successfully but then gone on to a new round and got a bfp? What do people think about this theory and what do you think would make it so? Premature lutenization? What else??

Secondly, has anyone had karotyping done on themselves and partner?

You see, I am 29 and hubs in 32. Our issue is tubal infertility, I have had both tubes snipped due to hydrosalpinx. My count is good, sperm is good, lining good, we had 6 eggs on low stim, and ended up with 3 day 5 embies so all good there but not a single one implanted. I am not a believer in immune therapy or clotting factors so I am wondering if this was luck, a bad batch or something genetic?

Thinking aloud really but interested to hear other’s stories.

Xxzx

Sorry to hear about your failed transfers.

Had a quick look through your posts. Were all of your transfers natural? If so have you had your progesterone tested at transfer to be sure that it’s not something as simple as low progesterone causing implantation failure?

I’m sorry I don’t know about karyotyping, hopefully one of the other ladies can help there.

Were all of your embryos of a high grade?

There are so many factors that can cause an embryo not to implant, unless the embryos were PGS tested there’s no way of knowing if they had chromosome abnormalities. Then there is the question of whether they found your correct implantation window (if you have a narrow one) there are so many factors and ultimately you need a bit of luck.

I didn’t get pregnant until my 3rd transfer but I know it was nothing to do with me.

It was due to previous embryos being of poor quality or possibly chromosome abnormalities.

I did try steroids for the successful transfer but I’ve no way of knowing if they were needed or if they made the difference.

All I know is the first time a top quality blastocyst was transferred I got pregnant. I hope you can find the answers and get your miracle x

Hey! Thanks for getting back to me. All my transfers have been supported with progesterone and my levels were checked last cycle on my insistence and the numbers were good. So it doesn’t seem to be that or rather it wasn’t the last time.

Also, each of the three embies were good. The first two were top quality and the third less so I don’t know there either....

I think I am just having one of those days where I want to be able to control/do something about it all.

Congratulations on your pregnancy cxxx

Hi I had 3 fresh cycles and one natural frozen one.

My second cycle I have two embryos grade A which one give me a baby girl and one was freeze.

This feb we decided to do one more fresh cycle so we can get bit more embryos.

Results was really good collecting 14 eggs 10 fertiliser and give us 4 embies .

Grade A+ was transferred so we had one more grade A and two grade C.

Overall 3 from 3rd cycle and 1 from second cycle what I had my baby.

So feb cycle didn’t work ...

Last month we went through natural frozen cycle.

We use the one from when I had my baby and one A from the last one.

2day was my OTD and BFN .

I’m 39 my AMh is 5.7 , I got regular period, I ovulate, no issues with lining, my hubby sperm all good ...

I don’t have a answers either....but one thing is making me think that Is not the “bad batch”....more due to implantation...like endometriosis maybe ...which after all tests I done and have good embryos that the only thing is left worth to check .

Sorry hun I wish to be more helpful xx

I hate to say it but sometimes it really is just luck and there isn't any specific reason for it or at least thats what I have concluded.

Ive had 3 cycles so far... all fresh, one BFP which sadly didn't make it and 2 BFNs. The embryos on my third round I was told were the best I've had out of all three rounds and yet that was recently a BFN. The not so good embryos were the BFP.

There doesnt seem to be any logic to it, but I am sure others will have wiser words. Really sorry for your journey so far, masses of luck for next round x

Hey Daisy! I actually think these are the wise word I needed. There is so little solid, controlled research into implantation failure that I feel like it is a case of just trying again and again until it aligns. I am sorry you are going through this too! I know how it can take over.

We still have two NHS cycles so u am now waiting for my af (she’s teasing me) so that we can have all the preliminary tests again. Maybe a fresh cycle is what I need. I know I am in a much better place mentally than when we first collected so fingers crossed. Xxxx

So sorry for you, I am in the same boat, age 35 with blocked tubes,

First ivf we had 9 eggs collected 5 fertilise , 2 made till day 5 where we had 2 transfer (fresh and frozen ) both implantation failure

The second ivf we had 21 eggs, 19 fertiliser and 3 made till day 5, had one fresh transfer and again implantation failure. We getting ready for 4 transfer but I am so scared that will never happen and will be the same, on both fresh transfer my AF arrived on day 12 of 2 weeks waiting.

Look like my body just don't want to accept the embryo 🥺

Hi frussy.

Have u had any other tests done like thyroid or NK cells ? Xx

Frussy profile image
Frussy in reply to Olivia1980xxx

We did n't have test NK cells, had in the past 2 ectopics after tube surgery

My last ectopic was in 2012 since then never got pregnant again

Found out that my tubes are blocked when I was 23, had 2 laparoscopic for unblocking my tubes, fell pregnant after but both were ectopic on my right side, first pass with treatment and second need surgery

Still, have my right tube ( wasn't remove )

Around 5 years ago my both tubes was blocked.

I had laparoscopy and hysteroscopy.

They open and repair left tube but they removed my right one due to be to “damage “that will may effect me getting pregnant.

We being trying naturally but nothing was happening so we decided go thru ivf.

First cycle didn’t work but second one give us baby girl.

The 3rd cycle this feb didn’t work and by having a 4 frostie ...one from a cycle I had a baby and another 3 from last one we had last month natural frozen cycle which 2day was my OTD and even that we had 2 embryos put back in didn’t work ....

All my tests r good so I don’t know what again went wrong 😔xx

I don't know, my doctor said that sometimes is just go down to luck

I lost all my hopes even I will do the next transfer I know will be the same results. I try now to do natural remedies for my tubes ( probably will never work as well ) taking serrapeptase and just ordered wobenzyme n to take for this next 2 months before starting fet medication. As well we will try this time with embryo glue. I another side I know all the ladies said that because ivf is controlled by the treatment I do have the feeling that all my transfers were too late ( 2 days before my AF ), Have a regular cycle every 28 days without fail and natural I ovulate on day 11 of my cycle, maybe my body just knows that I am not pregnant when is introduce one strange thing with 2 days before Af because the new cycle is already ready to start but this is just a silly thing that is stuck in my mind and probably is not true 🙈.

I am sorry you are going through all this. It is so frustrating to have no control over what is happening! Xx

Hi Recidwen,

I’m in a very similar boat to you, I’ve had 2 fresh transfers and 2 frozen transfers with 6 day 5 blastocysts in total (4 top quality and 2 average) and I haven’t even had a sniff of a BFP.

My first fresh cycle I had 4 x 5bb blastocysts that apparently looked perfect but after these never worked my consultant said to me that it could have been a ‘bad batch’ of eggs recruited that month.

My second fresh cycle I only got 2 blastocysts that were average and they again, didn’t implant.

There are sooooo many variables that make it so frustrating isn’t there... could be the embryos... was the lining thick enough.... was it the right receptive window... immune issues.

I have been pregnant once before but had a MMC so my consultant is confident that it will happen again, I’m 32 with a high AMH... but why isn’t it happening?!

I have tried immune drugs, Intralipids, extra progesterone support, the end scratch, embryo glue... you name it, I’ve tried it. Is it just luck and the right time??

Haven’t had Karotyping done as consultant says that he’s never ever seen one come back as abnormal

In hid experience but it’s worth looking at maybe?

My husband has just given a sample to have DNA sperm fragmentation testing done. Is males have a High fragmentation rate then it affects the viability of the embryos which could be a reason they’re failing.

I am also going to have the Endometrial receptivity test done this month too, it’s only beneficial in a frozen cycle but it could snubs identify if my window for implantation is displaced. So the results of that will dictate if I do a transfer on my next fresh. Or do a freeze all if it turns out my window is wrong.

I’ve seen two different consultants now in the hopes I would be told something other than ‘I think you’re just unlucky’ but they’ve both said pretty much that and to persevere.

The last thing you want to hear after 4 failed transfers 😢 very hard. But I’m not ready to give up and I hope any of the info I’ve given might help you with a bit more research!

Have you tested for MTHFR? That will defiantly cause implantation issues.

Jeeezz. You are one tough lady. Isn't it amazing we survive and keep going? I am in admiration of your determination and strength. It is so hard at a young age too because everyone expects it to work for you, I expected it to work for me by the second failed transfer I was like, realllyyyy world?

For your case, are you unexplained? As you have tried it all, almost, I would definitely try the karotyping. Have you ever had the embryos tested? Did the consultant say to you what is the science behind a 'bad batch'? I am guessing you have had thryroid checked? You've had laproscopy? A hysteroscopy? A change of protocol?
