Anyone doing Lubion injections subcutaneously?

Fingerscrossed38 profile image

I'm about to start my first FET and have been prescribed Lubion progesterone injections daily. The Dr said they're done subcutaneously like the other stim injections. However all the You Tube clips talk about progesterone in oil (pio) and it's injected intramuscularly.

Is Lubion water based? So therefore doesn't need warming up? I used an ice pack to numb the area before & after each injection during stims and it helped so much. I would love to do this again with Lubion but can't obviously if it's in oil...

I’m going to be doing for the first time this cycle, but still stimming at the mo so not started yet. It’s definitely different to the PIO injections- my clinic discussed that with me and I’ve just checked my pack which says the other ingredients are water and Hydroxypropylbetadex (not sure on that one, would have to google!).

It can be done subcutaneously, the same as the stims and i’ll be using ice to help numb the skin as pretty terrified of needles (god knows how I’ve managed this 3 times already 😂) which I can’t see a problem with, but you could check with your clinic if worried.

Hope that helps! xx

Hey thanks for replying. I'm so relieved it can be done subcutaneously. Numbing the area was definitely the key for me surviving stimming. I'm glad I can do it again with Lubion. Boy is it expensive though! Just paid £166 for 12 days worth! Only doing 25mg per day (one injection). Can't stand to think of spending that for 12 week's worth!

I might get them to check my progesterone levels after a few days on Lubion & cyclogest to ensure I'm getting enough as I keep reading about girls having Lubion plus 2 x 400 cyclogest per day and I'm only have one.

I hope your stims are going well. What date do you hope to transfer? Fresh or frozen?

Yup none of this malarkey seems to come cheap!!

Doing my usual 3x 200mg progesterone pessaries plus the Lubion this time as I bled a few days early in a previous cycle. Fresh cycle and got my first stimulation monitoring scan on Fri, egg collection will prob be around Mon 12th Aug based on previous cycles.

How about you? xx

Do you know what level your Dr likes your progesterone to be?

Ah so we may well be doing our transfer around the same time? I'm doing a natural unmedicated frozen transfer with a 5 day blastocyst on our around 15th August of all goes to plan...

I have no idea! They prob won’t even want to test it, I have to push for everything and they seem fixed on a minimal and not very forward- thinking approach. I’ll push for my levels to be tested if pregnant this time, but not going with them again if this one’s a negative.

Yes transfers will be a similar time, so we’ll be 2ww buddies if all goes to plan! xx

So frustrating that we need to double check and push for simple tests.

Good luck over the next few weeks :-)

Hi, I'm using lubion right now as part of my FET cycle, definitely subcut into abdomen. It's a bit thicker than some of the others so can leave a bit of a lump once you inject as it takes longer to by absorbed and the area can be quite tender afterwards, for several hours - my clinic told me this is normal. I've found injecting it really slowly helps to minimise the lump I get afterwards x

Oh! Do you think we're able to request a thinner smaller needle? Man I'm dreading these injections but at least they're easier than the intramuscular injections! When is your fet date?

I honestly don't think changing the needle will make any difference, the needle is still really small. Dont worry, they're honestly not too bad, just do it really slowly and you should be fine and inagree definitely better than intramuscular! I'm actually 13dp5dt and have had 2 positive hcg blood results!!! Eeek!! When do you start your cycle? x

Woohoo that's so exciting!!! When did you first test positive? Did you wait for your otd? What otd did your Dr give you? I get so confused because I think back to when I got my bfp in the past (both ended in miscarriage) I tested 12dpo. So I figure with a 5 day blastocyst I would add 7 days and that would equal 12 days post ovulation? So basically have to test 7 days after FET?

I still cant quite believe it!!! I had a day 5 transfer and my OTD was 9 days after, I had a blood test and didnt do a home pregnancy test. My 2nd hcg bloods were done today 13 days after transfer. Does your clinic do bloods or urine pregnancy test? So sorry to hear about your miscarriage, that mist have been devastating. Hope your FET goes smoothly x

That's great that you managed to hold out and not test at home before your blood test. Did you have an inkling you were pregnant before the hcg test? That seems like another torturous wait between hcg tests too! I think my clinic does blood. I've had a missed miscarriage and a chemical so I'll be insisting on blood tests if it works! Best of luck xx

I didnt have many symptoms in my 2ww so wasnt sure what the result was going to be! I had some minor twinges on and off for a couple of days when implantation likely happened and I felt really nauseous one day but thought it was just because it was really hot that day! Apart from that I didnt experience much! Waiting for the 2nd hcg test was quite nerve wracking! I think definitely push for blood tests. Also, does your clinic test your progesterone levels too? I had to have my progesterone adjusted twice x

You did really well with both waits.

I can get anything I want tested I just pay £145 per blood test though for same day results. On which days did you have your progesterone tested? Are you on cyclogest & Lubion if so what amounts?

Poppy_2018 in reply to Fingerscrossed38

Wow that's a lot per blood test but good that you at least have the option to have them done. I was on lubion 25mg daily and cyclogest 400mg twice a day initially. The day before transfer they checked my levels and increased cyclogest to three times a day. I then had a repeat level 6 days later and my doses remained the same. On my OTD they checked my progesterone levels again and they told me to increase my lubion to 25mg twice a day, so I'm now on cyclogest 400mg three times a day and lubion 26mg twice a day. They checked levels again yesterday and said they were fine so to continue same doses x

Oh interesting! Do you know what levels that wanted them to be? I think progesterone is so important

Poppy_2018 in reply to Fingerscrossed38

I'm not 100% sure as I didnt really ask, but on the day of my hcg my progesterone levels were 80 (not sure what units this is) and they increased my lubion x
