Learning from NHS scan to take to private IVF

Hi all, just thought I’d share a quick learning that may help anyone else in my boat...

I had a scan on the NHS to check all follicles etc are ok. The nurse told me all seemed fine.

As there’s no NHS funding in our area we then pursued an appointment privately. They said they didn’t need to repeat initial blood tests and scan if I can get them the results, so saves a few hundred pounds.

It took a couple of weeks to get the scan results from my surgery, but turns out they’re no good to Access Fertility as they need the follicle count which wasn’t documented on there.

So if you find yourself in the same boat, please ask them to document follicle count! I’m not having to pay £120 for a repeat scan, fit it in around work, and hoping it doesn’t delay the start of the IVF process.

I’ve fed back to my doctors to put this on in future - they know there’s no funding and they must get many women chase the results, which won’t be of any use when trying to use for another clinic.

I know the NHS is very stretched and everyone’s doing their best 😕 but don’t find yourselves having to pay for a repeat of a process you’ve already done xxx

This is strange, is this their usual practice? I had a follicle tracking scan with the nhs when I did my first cycle of clomid. Although I didn't get a copy of the actual scan, I did get a detailed write up (report) of how many follicles I had, the size of the follicles, the size of my ovaries and the thickness of my lining. Following the scan they also wanted a day 21 blood test to check for ovulation. I used this for my initial consultation with my private IVF clinic and this was suffice. Sounds like there are different practices depending on where you are. It's a shame yours wasn't documented. So much of the process is a learning curve. Good luck with your cycle xx

Thank you! I presume it’s just what they do at my surgery, but is very annoying when it’s taken a few weeks to get the results, and when they know people will have to find their own ivf clinics they aren’t then given the required information. Thought I’d share in case anyone else needs the same! Good to know not all are the same though, good luck to you too!!! Xxx

Yes I get what you mean. I can't believe your clinic didn't even write them down in notes anywhere! That's the whole point of the scan. As I've just said on another post, I've been through a few cycles of ivf, I started taking a pen and paper to my follicle scans and whilst they were scanning me, I would write down myself the number of follicles, sizes which side the follicles were on and lining size. It's good to be able to compare at a later date if you need xx
