Advise needed: carry on “as normal” or chill??

Hi guys,

Need some advise from whom my understand the situation...

I have my FET planned for next Friday (nervous does not even describe it) and I am due to work the following weekend.

Now I know (and even my consultant) told me to carry on life as normal but the thing is I work in a very busy A&E department where you never know how stressful the day might be.

Am I being silly thinking that maybe I should take the weekend off and take it easy or should I just really carry on as normal?? (Admittedly the crazy stress environment is my normal habitat)

Thanks for your opinions 🙂

I’m a nurse and I take 3 days off post transfer, then don’t do any nights for my 2ww, I’m in my third 2ww and my manager has been great and very understanding of my anxieties! I’m not sure it makes any difference but I feel to give us the best possible chance I should keep my stress levels to a minimum x

Hi ShadowRed, I dont think you're being silly at all. I think it's natural to worry about being in stressful environments post transfer. My clinic say that all you need off is the day off transfer but to do what you feel most comfortable with. I personally work in a busy hospital environment and we are extremely short staffed during my post transfer period (end of this week or beginning of next week) so I am thankful that I have actually booked leave during that time. I naturally get quite anxious in stressful environments (particularly when staffing levels are bad) and I want to do everything I can to minimise my stress levels and not have to worry later about whether it could have impacted on my transfer or not.

I think you should do whatever you feel most comfortable with. Wishing you all the best for you upcoming transfer 😊

I had FET and took the week from day of transfer off sick ( am frontline ‘law enforcement’ boss aware and suggested this) then was lucky to have 5 days off in my normal shift pattern so only went back 3 days before test was due. My Dr had already signed me onto desk duties, so no worries about doing normal work. Was successful and now waiting for 12 week scan. I’d say deffo take time for yourself and chill! My clinic advised no baths, heavy lifting or sex for 5 days following transfer, so as I was off I stayed in, watched some box sets, ate choc and crisps and concentrated on taking my meds at the right time. I had quite a bit of spotting in the 2ww and would have been much more panicked about it if I had been at work. It was hell to stay in, as i’m very active, but now i’m preg was worth it. Wishing you the best of luck 👍

Hi love, it really is up to you! I'm currently 15 weeks after FET and worked 13 days straight post transfer in a very busy and often physical job. The wait for test day was so much easier than during my fresh cycle when I had too much time to think because we were quieter at work. This time, I had very little time to symptom spot or worry, and test day came before I knew it. I really do think the Dr's are right - it won't make any difference physically but it all comes down to what you can cope with because that's most important. Try not to be scared, best of luck xxx

Hi,

If you’re considering taking the weekend off and it’s not a major faff to arrange, I’d be inclined to do it.

I’m in social work so my job isn’t at all physical but can be stressful and involve aggression which I wanted to avoid. In terms of carrying on as normal, I completely believe in it physically and did lots of walking, the usual housework, going out to meet friends etc. I can get quite anxious though so wanted to reduce stress levels. Too much time off allows me to overthink things but a few days felt perfect!

Good luck whatever you decide xx

Thank you for all your comments ladies xx

I think I will take the weekend off - offer to cover a weekend when the department is short staffed and I’m feeling more confident and in control (if that is ever going to happen)
