When is it a good time to stop with own eggs

Hi everyone,

I am still digesting the results from my second frozen cycle and I am feeling lost and sad. After a brilliant first round with 5 blastocysts (and 2 transferred for a BFN) earlier this year, I went for a second round a couple of weeks ago and was shocked to find that I only produced 4 eggs with a severely decreased AMH of 3.3 (vs 10+ a few months earlier). In a nutshell, I thought I still had decent chances at my age (42) and suddenly I found out that my chances were in the toilet.

Out of the 4 eggs from the last round, I got 1 day 6 blastocysts, which I was told "is a good result for my age because I still go to blastocyst"(?!) To sum up, I now have 3 day 5 blastocysts and 1 day 6 blastocyst frozen. I'm getting ready for a 3rd egg collection cycle and apparently should consider myself happy if I have one blastocyst again?

When I look at these results, combined with my age, it sounds like my chances of success are very low and I am wondering whether it is time to stop collecting my own eggs and start moving on.

Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Hey,

Sorry to hear this. We are in a similar situation. The unfortunate predicament is that eggs don't get better with age, very sadly. I am starting round 2 this week and then we will go straight to donor eggs, probably abroad. I have reconciled with the donor egg process on the grounds that we only have a certain amount of money to spend on IVF and that would be the next step for us. We have 1 possible embryo from the first round but that's it (we are waiting back no the definite report from the consultant now). Whilst that wasn't a good result, I don't think it's unusual.

Wishing you all the best with your decision

I am sorry to know your story? Have you considered having mesotherapy treatment to ovaries before your egg collection to increase your chances and improve ovarian reserve?

Hi alockie Thank you for your feedback, it's the first time I hear about mesotherapy to ovaries, can you perhaps tell me more? Is this something we can have done in the UK?
