So on saturday I went to the docs with a suspected UTI. I gave a urine sample and the doctor diagnosed me as dehydrated. Sent me home with ORS. Started to feel better after a couple of glasses of that, continued to drink as much as was prescribed. Urine went back to normal colour. The next day the simple urinalysis results came in and showed no sign of bacteria. Woohoo! Then today, i get the results of the culture test and low and behold it shows e coli at greater than 10^4 cfu/ml now i have to wait goodness knows how long for either the family doctor i saw on saturday or my fertility doctor who is out of the country on annual leave, to get back to me. I'm so frustrated and confused and just want to know what i need to do and is my baby ok? Anyone else had a similar experience? I don't really have any uti symptoms. Some mild pelvic cramping and kinda frequent urination but i thought that was all just due to being pregnant ? Thanks.

Ecoli is actually quite common in urine. Make sure your wiping front to back after a bowel movement, and get in to your GP as soon as possible. Baby should be fine as it's a urine infection not a vaginal/cervical infection etc.
I'll be seeing my ob gyn on weds. I'm sure either the doctor i saw on saturday or my fertility doctor will have gotten back to me by then too. I just want to fix it now! I always wipe front to back. I can't wait for my next ultrasound at 12w 2days. My last one was at 8w4d and this is the longest I've gone without seeing my baby since my bfp. After going through so much to get here, I'm terrified of losing my baby.
Hi Makingbaby. Oh dear, that's a nuisance. However, you must drink lots of water, as you can become dehydrated. Baby should be OK. Your specialist that you will be seeing will guide you - or your midwife?? Hope all is soon OK. Diane
Has the dr who have the results not offered you antibiotics? I lost count the number of uti’s I had in my pregnancy and was always given them and I’m prone to them anyway.
Ecoli is the most common cause of uti’s so don’t worry about that. Keep drinking plenty of water too.
