Hi guys,

Getting ansy waiting to do my pregnancy test on Friday, but last time on my first cycle it showed up faint positive (think it was chemical). But it added stress as I was trying to work out if it was positive or not. Can you request a blood test at your general doctors does anyone know? I’ve emailed clinic but they won’t get back until at least Tuesday,

Thanks in advance 😊❤️ x

Hey hun. My gp wouldn't let me have a blood test if there is no bleeding etc. I'm an nhs patient and requested bloods done by my clinic but had to pay privately xx

I thought that might be the case. We are NHS too it just seems silly just to do a simple test when a blood test could just initially tell you for sure! Xx

Do you remember how much you had to pay for the beta test? Xx

I think it’s £40 xx

Mine was £45. Along with the beta i had to get progesterone done and I had them repeated in 2 days so £180 for the bloods xx

Hi Kirsty for peace of mind you could do the blood test and yes it would be something you would pay for. Good luck and hope its not too much of a wait for you.

You can do it privately with medichecks - buy two kits and do them 2 days apart to check your hcg doubling xx

Hi, what are medichecks? Sorry I’ve never heard of them before x

Just google it it’s an online company. They send you a finger prick kit and you send it off in the morning post, I’ve always got my results the next day xx

I think you can... it's not that they would do it normally but of course you can have an additional checking if you want it. The only difference is your insurance or package (if you're on a program of a clinic) won't cover it.... so you might have to pay for the test from out of pocket directly. I personally don't have this experience but heard something similar at the clinic I did my IUI with.

I think the clinic might not let you do a blood test. However, if you pay then they might do it. If this is something that is at the back of your mind I would suggest that you definitely get it done. It will really make you feel better. I hope the best for you. Sending baby dust your way. All the prayers are with you.

I would definitely get the blood test. Our UK clinic never advised this, but our Cyprus clinic insisted on it. On test day we did do a home one and it was a super faint line. We almost missed it. We arranged the bloods through our original UK clinic and the nurse wanted to reserve judgement until the bloods came back. It was positive and I am now pregnant. The Cyprus clinic say that the home pregnancy tests have come back negative before and people have considered stopping their progesterone etc, and then the blood test has been positive. Our GP wouldn't do it through NHS as she said the home pregnancy tests are very sensitive. But obviously not always. And not in our case! Get the bloods done for your own piece of mind - although waiting for the results is kinda terrifying!!

Your clinic may do one if you pay for it. I had one done privately with my old NHS clinic, it cost £50. However what I would say is that if you get a positive you really want to have one 48hrs later to check that the number is going in the right direction and at the expected rate which is doubling every 48-72hrs. Good luck.xx

Thanks for the advice. I don’t feel the same as my first cycle too which is scary. I don’t have that feeling that I know I’m pregnant. I mean i didn’t actually ‘know’ before I did my test but I could have guessed if you know what I mean. This one I can’t guess, is that bad?! I don’t feel much different about from slight cramping, back ache, shattered and really sore boobs that have got bigger too! Sorry if TMI! I have been pumped with hormones though so it could be them xx

To be honest Ive had 4 negatives and 1 positive....I really kind of felt different in them all. I sure wasnt expecting my BFP (possible due to so many BFN's). Some people get side effects of a BFP when they get a BFN and the other way around too. Progesterone is evil, it plays with your head and causes everything that could be a pregnancy symptom. Hang on in there, you never know!xx

That is so true about the progesterone! This cycle feels different from the last one but this one is a frozen one rather than fresh so I suppose I’m not quite as stressed from the stimulation and egg collection. It’s such a hard process for anyone xxx

Frozen is much easier on the body that is for sure! Good luck for OTD, hope its a BFP.xx

I had a positive home test but I was also bleeding so my clinic did 2 hsg blood tests. I have to tell you though, that the nurses where refusing me but I called after hours and the doctor suggested it himself......

Yeah somehow I don’t think I’m going to be able to request one. I’ve sent them an email to ask but I don’t think they will xx
