Can I buys fertility meds somewhere other than from the clinic?

Starsandsunbeams profile image

Hi all, I've read a few things about sourcing meds from alternative places. I had no idea this was an option! But would like to know how I go about it if possible? I'm considering using Lubion for my FET. Anyone know much about where I can get this from and the difference in costs compared to clinics? Thanks in advance xx

Fertility2u and ASDA pharmacy are used by lots of ladies here and are, more often that not, offering better prices than clinics.

I asked a quote from both and for my meds fertility2u was way cheaper than Asda pharmacy.

Thank you, how do I go about getting quotes? X

For the quote from Asda pharmacy I went to my local one.

Fertility2u is an online pharmacy. I’ve submitted my prescription on their website.

Hi

We have just gone through a fresh cycle and decided to get our medication from Asda instead of the clinic and saved over £500 we had to pay £50 for the prescription but this was the same as the delivery fee from the clinic.

It’s defo worth checking price around local pharmacy Asda promise zero profit on ivf medication

Good luck xXx

Wow thank you, great to know. How do I go about finding out prices? Can I ring them or should I go into a pharmacy to speak to somebody? X

We went in and spoke to the pharmacist and gave them a list of what we needed and they gave us all the prices for each item !

I got a price comparison from Asda and fertility2u and my clinic matched it. Saved £150! Worth a go :-)

My clinic only use fertility2u and I’ve had no problems. I’m using lubion now and I do prefer it but it is more expensive. For my short protocol FET it’s £285.

How much (dosage) is that if you don't mind me asking? Is it an injection per day and for how long? X

That’s one injection per day for 3 weeks. Then if you’re pregnant you will either have to buy more or switch back to the cyclogest x

Thank you, that's useful to know. All the best to you xx

My last cycle I got my all meds from Asda they don’t put tax on top . We save over £450

What u need to do u need to ask in your clinic for privet prescription and u need “hard” copy on paper.

In my clinic they charge me £50 for prescription I took to Asda and two days after I had them all.xx

We used Stork and thought they were great. For the meds we used (menopur, cetrotide, Utrogestan and lubion) they were the same price as Asda and they deliver to your door, the next day, free of charge xx

My clinic use Stork but when they give us a quote and we compare Asda was much cheaper. I had synarel spray , and 4x gonal f 300 and 2x gonal f 900. Utrogestan my GP give us on prescription.

We save over £450 hun .xx

I guess it depends on which meds you use as we didn’t have any the same as you apart from Utrogestan. They were £1 each and were the same everywhere we went. I couldn’t get them on prescription from the doctors. We tried but they declined. For our meds there wasn’t a huge difference in price between all suppliers but Stork were lowest price and the most convenient as we didn’t have to go anywhere to get them.

For others, like you, they’ll save £100’s going elsewhere so it’s definitely worth shopping around. £450 is a great saving xx

Hi all

I was advised by my clinic to purchase a 3 month pre paid prescription certificate and it worked out a lot cheaper. We were NHS funded guess it may be different if going private?

Our private clinic use Stork and the quote they gave us was really high. I rang our local Asda pharmacy for a quote as they don’t apply the normal mark up other pharmacies add (Lloyd’s for example). You might have to tell them when you ring up or ask to speak to the manager (normally you end up being passed to them anyway as it’s not a normal medication for most the staff). The clinic did a private prescription (they don’t charge any extra for this) and I dropped it off at Asda and picked up the prescription the next day. I also had a quote from Fertility2U and this was the same as Asda for my meds, but with the delivery charge (£25) it worked out cheaper and easier from Asda, where I could just go and collect rather than wait in for a delivery. It’s best to ring Fertility2U and ask for the prices first, as they they ask you to request a quote online which you won’t need to do it it’s cheaper elsewhere. Good luck x

Hey! Try Pharmasure. I got quotes from Pharmasure, Asda and fertility2u and pharmasure was much cheaper!

Asda do cost price fertility meds. I got quotes from everywhere, and am also on Lubion subcutaneously (as didn’t fancy the intramuscular injections), Asda were a few hundred pounds cheaper for everything. Their Lubion was by far the cheapest. Pharmasure were double the price for Lubion. My clinic didn’t advertise that you could get drugs privately but I asked and they gave me private scripts. Don’t think they were very happy about it though - they use Pharmasure and, I suspect, get a kick back from them for it. Make sure you get the clinic to include details of the needles you need to, then Asda give these for free.

Hi, I ordered my second round’s meds from Stork Fertility online. They were way cheaper that ASDA, who in turn are much cheaper than other pharmacies.
