8 week scan

Had my 8 week scan on Monday, I’m now 8 weeks 2 days.

Was told I had 1 baby in there, I started crying firstly as I really thought both would take and have twins, so that I wouldn’t have to go through this again, as we would barely afford it.....

But then she turned the screen around and showed me this little shape and a heart beating so fast, I cried harder, because I realised how damn lucky I was to have this little one in there.

My mum and partner were in with me too and were so happy and mum cried too, saying she had waited so long for this!

So I have my very first midwife app on Monday, and they need to make a scan for 3 weeks after then, as I will be 12 weeks at that point and to make sure all is ok in there still.

A question I have is, can you find out at a 12 week scan what you are having?

Xx

It’s usually the 20 week scan when u find out the gender unless u book a private scan. I think they can usually tell from about 16weeks. Huge congratulations by the way xx

Hi not at the 12w scan but u can get a private scan from 16w for gender. congratulations x

Hi congratulations my dear, the emotions are so high and wonderful. Yes you can find out the sex from week 10 by taking a private test called Harmony. It's a NIPT test for chromosomes and there is an option to find out sex (100% accurate) however this costs between £350 and £450 depending on your private clinic.

We did this test because I was desperate to know of the baby is healthy and what we are having. But yes it's expensive. Otherwise you would need to wait for your 20 weeks NHS scan xxxx

I cried at my viability scan too. Sort of a cry laugh. It really is the most beautiful moment after going through infertility struggles!

Good luck with your booking appointment. Expect to give bloods and answer lots of questions. 12 weeks is too early to find out the sex. But I believe you can find out from 16 weeks so you could always opt for a private scan around then... or just wait for your 20 week ultrasound.

Hope you have a good 9 months.

Oh Hun! I am so happy for you. It is really amazing to see that little bean inside. But if you hear that very pleasant heartbeat sound it is impossible not to burst into tears!!! I understand you and your mom)) and can only imagine your faces at that moment)) My congratulations!!!! An as for your question, 12 weeks is not enough to find out the gender of a baby. You will be able to know it on the 16-week scan.

Great news, congrats. With a clear potty shot gender prediction can b done 12+ weeks using nub and skull theory. Around 96% accuracy. Your private sonographer may do it, or send it in online. I think there is a site, nub detectives. Google it or look on pinterest. 😀
