Hi Jasmine. I’m sorry to hear about your struggles. We’ve also suffered secondary infertility and the journey has been extremely difficult. We had no choice other than ICSI as my husbands sperm count was so bad. How we conceived our son so quickly we’ll never know.

Our ICSI journey started in July 2018. We had one failed round, one successful that ended in miscarriage at 10 weeks and we’re now currently 17 weeks with our final embryo.

Do you know the reason for your secondary infertility?xx

Hiya! Thanks for commenting. I had a laparoscopy and they said one tube was slightly blocked due to scarring but they unblocked it and said I was good to go. That was over a year ago now. I’m worried there is a underlining issue that they may not be looking into. I’m only 25 and it scares me that there maybe a problem somewhere x

We are in the same boat at present. Husband's sperm count is lower than normal and referred for ICSI. Been ttc for two years and due to start our first round in October.

Although in saying that, I was back at my docs today and have been referred to gynae for endo investigations too!

Hi lovely I had a MC at 37 after couple more years of trying and investigations was told my amh was 0.07 so no chance of a natural pregnancy. I ended up going abroad for ivf with DE. There was no option of NHS help due to my age and was way too expensive in UK. Was 5k abroad including weeks stay and flights would have cost 9k here. Certain ivf with own eggs abroad is 'only' ( !!? ) £1500 x

Hi,

I suffered with infertility to conceive my first child. It took 9 months of clomid, one failed IUI and a final positive IVF. We’re now trying for a second and waiting again! Infertility is the worst!! Xx

What blood types are you both? X

Jasmine1991 profile image
Jasmine1991 in reply to

I’m not too sure actually, does this make a difference?

in reply to Jasmine1991

It can do if you are rhesus negative and your partner positive. It could mean that your body created antibodies after the last child birth to attack positives and therefore create secondary infertility. The answer, if that has happened, and you have the antibodies, would be to be treated with anti-d. Which is a simple injection. Definitely worth asking about - if you are different blood types. X

Hi jasmine. Sorry to hear of you, and others issues above. How long have you been trying for? Have you had all the diagnosis tests? How old are you if you don’t mind me asking ? We are going through the same. We conceived our daughter the second month of trying in Feb 2015 and have been trying for a second for 18 months. No obvious reasons why this should be happening , partially blocked tube(apparently only reduces fertility by 10%?), AMH 7.7 the “low” end of the “average” range for my age apparently (38). We are starting IVF this month. With my age, and lowish AMH, we didn’t want to risk waiting a couple more years only find it would been harder or even worse - not possible at all via ivf.

My only concern is that as I haven’t had a lap or HSG (I’ve had a hyscosy) there could be an implantation issue... but that’s self diagnosis.

I would say that as time is passing I am feeling strongly that this is nature’s way, and whilst it is CRUEL AS HECK, we will fall pregnant again when it’s right for our body if the reasons seem to be “unexplained”. My concern is time so hence we are moving to get a bit of help from the experts. I also feel that it’s somewhere, somehow related to a previous birth or pregnancy. But I’m speculating.

Good luck for your journey and please keep in touch Xx

Thanks for the reply! I’ve had a lap and slight scarring on left tube but they removed it and said I should be fine. Im 25 and have been trying 3 years, my lap was over a year ago.

It’s hard where I had my son so young, all of my friends are just starting there family’s and I just want to complete mine x

Hi there Jasmine , The title caught my eye. Is your diagnosis unexplained ?

I am 4.5 years into my secondary infertility journey.

We also won't be going down the IVF route ,but remain hopeful for a natural pregnancy that can I sustain

Keep in touch

Wish you luck on this difficult journey . X

Hi! Yes it’s unexplained, I am too just hoping for a natural conception. I don’t seem to have high hopes that Ivf would work for me. Especially if it’s a implantation problem. I don’t really know much about all of this stuff so everyone’s comments are so helpful!xx

Hi I just saw your reply and can totally relate. I am also 4 and half years into my secondary infertility journey. I have just done 3 cycles of IUI and it didn't work. We are also not going down the IVF route due to cost and more so emotionally I don't think I take anymore heart ache. I think my chances of having a second child are gone. I turned 41 last week and so now trying to come to terms with only child. My friends tell me I should be grateful for the 1 child which of course I am but it doesnt stop the desire to have another child.

Good luck to you xx

Hi Jasmine

I had my son 8 years ago and have been ttc for the last 3+years. Had my first cycle of ivf this month. Unfortunately it didn’t work. Now I’m thinking whether certain tests / investigations should have been carried out (e.g lap ? Enderm? C section scarring of the uterus or even scar tissue after c section in general??

Things that possibly need to change / amend for the next cycle

Jasmine1991 profile image
Jasmine1991 in reply to savido1

I too had a c section and my left tube was slightly blocked, they didn’t say that was deff the cause however it could of been. So I would really recommend a lap!

I have a healthy 4 year old thankfully but I’ve since had a stillborn son and 6 miscarriages it’s tough going I’ve had numerous tests all comes back clear. On paper there’s nothing wrong it’s very frustrating.

It’s worse to hear nothings wrong when you can’t put it right isn’t it :( I’m so sorry to hear what happened and I wish you all the best and all the luck in the world xxx

Sorry to hear of your struggles.

I was in a similar position as I have a son but from a previous relationship. He’s grown up now! It really baffled the medics that I was struggling & they couldn’t find a reason for it I was told trying or IVF by first fertility doctor but no funding for us we also couldn’t afford it ( all tests came back “normal “) until eventually I had a laparoscopy by my second fertility doctor after suffering many gynae issues ( this was after trying for 5 years & 10 months) & endometriosis was found & treated. We conceived straight away but unfortunately I lost the baby at 4.5 weeks pregnant. It gave us hope it could happen & to cut a long story shorter I had another 2 laparoscopys to treat endometriosis ( it was so bad I was referred to a endometriosis specialist) & after my last surgery I have fallen & am 33 weeks pregnant.

I would always advise any lady facing infertility with unexplained infertility to have a laparoscopy to diagnose or rule out endometriosis ( it doesn’t show on a scan) it annoys me that it isn’t standard to check when everything else is 🙄

I’m glad I didn’t go ahead with the first fertility doctor opinion as it would’ve failed. Our issue was implantation caused by location of my endometriosis.

Hope you get a reason for the infertility & gets you closer to your BFP xoxo

Hiya. I struggled with secondary infertility for 3 years, all our tests came back perfect and there were no answers as to why we were struggling to conceive. We attempted ivf and had two good grade embryos we had a fresh put back in which sadly failed and last October had the frozen one put back in again sadly failed. We were both devasted as just didn't know why it wasn't working. Plus we conceived our first child OK naturally. Then to our surprise just before Christmas we found out we were expecting and with no help of ivf. The body's are very strange things and it will happen when you will least expect it. Keep remaining positive and I promise it will happen. X

Hi jasmine I too struggled for 29cycles in total including 1 failed ivf then as if by magic it happened. I now have a beautiful 11week old baby and am eternally grateful. It was a very difficult journey thinking something was wrong so I really sympathise with how you are feeling . I think dhea helped my low amh if you check back my old posts . Good luck xx

Hi ,

Iv been trying for 7 years.. i have a son and daughter and conceived both within a few months of coming off the pill...

I was told i have PCO as my follicle count was high when i had scans before starting ivf.. my partner has some small issues with sperm but nothing major. I ovulate and have a regular cycle but my poor egg quality teamed with poor sperm quality meant we were advised IVF is the best stem forward.

I had a failed cycle last year.. it broke my heart and its taken me a long time to get past it.. i have 2 beautiful children but it doesnt take away the desire to have another.. it doesnt make each month any easier when the dreaded 2ww ends in dismay.. it aches and it hurts and people often judge me n think im somehow immune to the pain of infertility.. im not...

i am extremely grateful for what I have but it doesnt take away the yearning for another baby..

secondary infertility is horrible because ur made to feel guilty

I hope u have a good support network and i know theres lots of support on here xx

I’m having the same issue, been trying since my son was 2.

I’m about to go through an FET. It’s so frustrating because I don’t know what’s gone wrong. I’ve had a lap, blood tests ... everything and no further forward. X
