Pain after egg retrieval

Hi,

I need your advice and experience! I had my egg retrieval yesterday (no sedation only paracetamol and injection of painkiller during the procedure, 30 follicles were retrieved). Some pain during the procedure but afterwards it was ok, I rested for the rest of the day. Today I felt fine this morning and went to work (~30 min walking). Now it starts to be really uncomfortable in the lower abdomen when I walk. I keep drinking coconut water to prevent OHSS, but except this painful lower abdomen I do not have any of the other typical symptoms.

I also have my D3 transfer on Friday. So I was wondering, did you experience such discomfort and was it gone by day 3? Or did you have to cancel the transfer because you were not feeling that well?

Thanks!

That’s a lot of follicles, did they get that many eggs too?

Surprised you did not have sedation or GA especially with that amount.

Make sure you drink lots of water too and keep an eye on the pain, urine output and if you are sick.

Call the clinic if things get worse..

Thanks for the reply! I got 19 eggs, but do not know yet how many were mature... I'll keep on drinking water and watch for other symptoms... Hope I'll be better tomorrow already!

Regarding sedation, I am at an ivf clinic in the Netherlands and they actually do not usually propose sedation or general anesthesia (btw at the dentist you don't get anesthesia unless you really ask for it!)

Hi LilyBleue That's a lot of follicles. You need to rest when you can, and drink plenty of water. Take regular paracetamol unless something else has been prescribed. Keep an eye on your urine output. If it gets dark or goes down a lot, then you need to be see by a doctor. Likewise if you become breathless. No ibuprofen or anti-inflammatories. Hope you soon feel better. Diane

Thanks for your reply! I'll take it easy and make sure I hydrate enough.
