Can fertility drugs increase the number of follicles?

Dear ladies,

Forgive me if i sound ignorant but i'm new on this whole topic. After consulting a fertility doctor, i'm going to use Menupor 1200 to harvest egg cells to freeze them for later use.

On an initial scan, before i started the whole procedure and before i injected anything, the scan showed i had 8 antral follicles. I don't have any abnormalities.

Now, my question is: after they initially counted 8 antral follicles before i started the whole procedure and i start using Menopur (or any fertillity drug for that matter), will it be possible to increase the number of follicles that can be stimulated during that cycle, or will 8 follicles be the maximum that can be stimulated ?

I hope i've been able to ask my question in a clear manner, english is not my native language. Thank you in advance.

Hi, I think you’re correct that 8 would be the maximum no of eggs you would get (though in practice it’s unlikely you’ll get a mature egg in all of them) but DianeArnold can probably advise better on how the no of follicles correlates to the no of eggs you’re likely to get.

Hi hunny yes it’s possible more follicles will appear, on my first scan I start with about 3, but by the end of stims end up with about 8 follicles. However, not all follicles have eggs, yet some follicles can have more than 1 egg. Also not all eggs may be mature, sadly there is no way to know the final count until after EC. X x x

You should get more mature follicles with stimulation.
