Morning everyone. As the title suggests I am very confused!
History:
IVF 1 Nov 17: 20 eggs, 11 fertilised, 2 blasts. Freeze all. Both BFN
Hubby diagnosed with DNA fragmentation
IVF (ICSI) 2 Nov 18: 6 mature eggs, 3 fertilised, no blasts. The cycle was a complete mess and nearly cancelled - I consider it a red herring.
IVF 3 Jan 19: Pill for 9 weeks prior to settle ovaries in the hope that only “good” eggs came forward with stims. 20 mature eggs! Only 3 fertilised and 1 blast. BFN
Doc said my eggs have chromosome abnormalities and it’s genetic. I insisted on proof - had Karyotyping for me and hubby and results came back normal!! In the 3 week wait for results id been having donor egg counselling because doc was so insistent the prob was genetic...
Doc now says I am to go on chlomid and metformin for 6 months. Then use donor eggs if that doesn’t work. Did chlomid 50mg 2 years ago at the start and we moved straight to ivf because 50mg did nothing. Also been on metformin for first year of ivf 🤷♀️
I’m 33. Had PCOS diagnosed after I came off the contraceptive pill (on it for 10+ yrs). Prior to that I had periods albeit they were irregular eg 4-6 weeks.
I also had unexplained uterus scarring in Dec 17. Removed but never explained.
I’m losing faith tbh in my doc and feel really lost!
Has anyone been in a similar situation?
Xxx

Hi. There are so many things that effect egg quality that are not tested for as standard. I’ve got PCO but not sure about the syndrome. Have irregular periods and acne but my AMH isn’t high. Some healthcare professionals think I have PCOS some don’t. Anyways ISCI round 1 - 5 eggs, 3 mature nil fertilisation. ISCI round 2 - 16 eggs, 12 mature, 3 fertilisation. 1 blastocyst at day 5, other not good enough to freeze. Negative test but had pelvic infection at time of transfer. Doc thinks it’s a fundemental egg quality issue. Has advised donor next but will support us trying again using our own eggs and sperm. We have had a pause whilst getting further investigation privately. Husbands karyotype was normal. My hasn’t been tested but I have been found to have a cadmium heavy metal toxicity which can effect egg quality. They are not sure if I’m fit enough to have treatment for that or how long that would take. So in the next few months I have to decide whether it’s worth putting my own health at risk to try to deal with the cadmium or going to donor. Neither of which are gaurenteed to work.
One woman on here also mentioned a hidden C infection test. She was treated for that and got pregnant the next cycle. May be worth looking into if you have unexplained uterine scarring.
Thanks for the information SRA8 and I’m sorry to hear about your struggles. When they say an egg issue it’s hard to accept until you have actual proof isn’t it, I think if I had a bad test result at least I could be sure it would never work! We’re just trying to weigh up if we should move straight to donor also...
Hi, I am sorry you are going through this. I can't help with my personal experiences, but from what I know PGS NGS might be one of solutions in case of chromosomal abnormalities. x
