Hi, I’m new to the forum. We’ve just finished our first round of IVF, and it failed with nothing to transfer on day 5. We had 7 eggs retrieved, 5 fertilised, but all stopped developing by or on Day 3 (1 6 cell, 2 4 cells, 1 2 cell). The original plan was to do a 5 day transfer, but I am wondering whether we should have pushed for a day 3 transfer given the situation on that day. Has anyone had a similar experience?
I have a relatively good AMH (18.9), and had lots of follicles developing although at divergent rates. The clinic decided to trigger when I had 7 follicles >15, although had many more ~11 which just never progressed. I am wondering whether this is due to relatively low meds (antagonist protocol, 150IU Menopur) and we’d have better luck with other drugs or protocol. When we had our initial scan the consultant said I had polycystic ovaries but not other markers of PCOS.
Has anyone been in a similar situation and any advice?

Hi, I also have relatively high AMH but no other markers of PCOS. My first round of IVF was similar to yours - 6 eggs collected, 6 fertilised but by day 5 all had arrested but one which was of very poor quality morula (not yet at blastocyst stage).
There is hope though as my second round was much better. I had 11 eggs collected, 7 fertilised and 5 made it to blastocyst stage - 1 transferred & 4 frozen. I didn’t do anything different to the first round but got much better results.
I know that now you must be really disappointed but each round is different and just because it didn’t work out this time doesn’t mean that next time won’t be quite different. I hope everything goes well for you in the future.
Hi Peony. So sorry to hear this, and I can only imagine your disappointment. However, when things do go wrong, a lot is learned about the cycle, and hopefully can be fine-tuned better to suit you next time. I do have a couple of lists of questions I could email you in confidence if you want to look through before going back. Contact me at support@fertilitynetworkuk.org if you want them. Diane
