1st Day of FSH injections - think I've messed up...already!?

Morning all. First round IVF and started my injections (2nd day of period) this morning.

Putting the injection together (solution + powder, needles etc) went well but when I went to put it into my upper thigh some of the liquid seemed to spill out and then I didn't feel the needle go in because it is so tiny, so checked that it was in and it was actually in my skin but then there was bit more liquid come out on my leg but I carried on and pushed the rest of the plunger in and finished the injection. I then rubbed my eye and I think I got some liquid in my eye!

I'm worried I didn't get the full dose and have messed up the whole darn thing!

I've left messages with my clinic and keep trying to speak to someone there but not getting through yet. I'm pretty sure most of it went in.

I won't be so robust jabbing it in my leg tomorrow morning and do it a bit more slowly and gently. I just thought it would be a lot harder sticking the needle in my skin that it actually was. When I practiced with the nurse the thing they had to jab into was a lot firmer than my flabby old thigh...:-( I think I will do my tummy tomorrow.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Best wishes to all x

Try not to worry too much if you had some leakage today. When you do your next one, take your time and squeeze the plunger a bit more slowly and gently....this should stop any further leakage!! I used my lower tummy for injecting into, we got shown to sit against a chair so its easier to pinch an inch (not that I have any troubles there) but it allows you to have the skin a bit firmer to put the needle into!xx

Hi SVR. This can happen to the best of us. You will be surprised at how you soon become an old hand at doing your injections. Seems like some of he solution might have been absorbed "intraocular" via your eye ha ha! Take your time. Good luck! Diane

Thank you. I have since spoken to the clinic and they too have said not to worry and next time, after I have injected, to leave it in a for moment before taking it out. I think I was overzealous this morning.

You know my eye feels pretty good...

Honestly, don't worry! I'm a trainee nurse and I actually administered myself with a lower dose than I should have for 2 days! woops. (Dosage has been the same for the last two years of my treatment so I just automatically continued with that on my IVF cycle) it's ok, I just went to the dose I should have been on when I realised and all was well. Had egg collection a week ago and now have 8 frozen blastocysts. Good Luck!!!

Thank you - good luck with everything. It is getting better each injection that goes by. I just take my time and have slowed everything down. The air bubbles are driving me mad though, I take ages tapping away to get them out, but it is quite satisfying when that last air bubble finally disappears!

Best of luck with the transfer.

It does get easier. One way to help with air bubbles is keep the syringe pressed down as far as you can until it's in the medication x

I remember struggling with the injections which I had to mix myself. I always struggled to drain the full amount of liquid out and sometimes ended up spilling some. I know how much it makes you panic but trust me they do get easier. Seems like most people mess at least one injection up at some point so please don’t worry x
