Hello, just looking for someone to tell me I'm not about to die... Got up this morning and went to take my lubion injection as normal. Loaded up the syringe, knocked the big air bubbles out, swapped to the injection needle and started to inject. Something didn't feel right so looked down and I had forgotten to press all the air out once I'd swapped needles, and there was air in the syringe... I stopped injecting immediately, corrected it and went again on the other side. No blood from the injection site so think I went straight into the fatty tissue...Common mistake or something to worry about?
I've done this soooo many times and never messed it up like this before!!

you are not going to die! After several cycles injecting menopur, I finally decided to ask the pharmacist for advice on how to get the air bubbles completely out. I was always so anal about it and one day I did have a small air bubble and freaked out.
He laughed (nicely) and said not to worry, it’s when you are injecting into a vein you need to worry about air bubbles, for these types of injections we are injecting into fatty tissue. He said the reason why the instructions talk about removing air bubbles is to ensure we are getting the correct dose and not injecting air instead of drugs. You will be ok xx
Thank you! That makes me feel so much better. It was just so much air and I felt it under my skin and also the syringe just didn't feel right. I'm still alive now and it has been nearly 30 minutes so hopefully you are correct!! I won't be doing that again in a hurry though... 🙈
I did the same with mine and spent the next few hours having a panic attack until I realised it was absolutely fine.I think if there was any possibility of us doing ourselves any serious harm with these injections, we'd not be allowed to self adminster.
Thank you! This is true. When I first got them back in April the nurse was like "any questions?" and I asked her "is there anything I can do to kill or seriously harm myself with these injections and what is the worst mistake I can make?". She laughed before realising I was serious and she looked at me very seriously and said "absolutely not and they are very hard to get very wrong". I should have remembered that this morning!!
I did this on my first IVF injection and immediately assumed I was gonna die. 😂 Lived to tell the tale, you'll be fine. If it was that easy to mess it up they wouldn't let people self inject. It's ok to inject a little air into the fat layer xx
I must have injected myself with a least 20 air bubbles over the years it’s absolutely fine it’s not going into a vein so not an issue at all 🤗 our clinic just said try and get as much air out as you can but don’t worry if still a wee bubble, I’ve done so many rushed injections I’ve defo had more than just a wee bubble especially with that lubion! Xx
I know - sometimes you sit and flick it and it is like that "Lights Out" game that was going about in the 90s, every flick more bubbles appear 🤣 Unfortunately this was entirely my fault and I hadn't got any air out of it, so it was very noticeable and quite alot of air. I'm fine though. I actually had some redness where I did it but that has gone today, so seems like no harm no foul! Phew!
I’ve injected myself with an empty needle, the big needle instead of switching to the smaller one, a needle that wasn’t connected properly and just squirted sticky liquid all over myself and defo forgotten to take the bubbles out 🤣🤣🤣 I swear those hormones make you loopy somethings!! Glad the redness has went down that must have been scary!! Xx
Haha that makes me feel much better! I know I think it is that. I was just so tired after a long week and ten days from transfer, full of hormones. I woke up with my alarm and was like "must. do. injection." Injecting yourself with the big needle can't have been fun!!!! They are sore enough as it is!! 😱 I have squirted myself with the liquid before - it is surprisingly sticky!
